Bruce premieres «Linda Let Me Be The One» in Florida

After a spectacular performance in Atlanta, Springsteen offered a surprising setlist in his first of two shows in Florida.

The concert in Sunrise featured 4 tour premieres, including the first ever live performance of «Linda Let Me Be The One», a song written in 1975 for Born to Run but left off the album and only released in 1998 in the Tracks box set. Bruce stopped it mid-song and re-started it, after saying «See, I told you we never played this before!».

«I Wanna Marry You» (in a solo acoustic version), John Lee Hooker’s «Boom Boom» and «Hearts of Stone» were the other tour premieres.

«The River», «Save My Love» and «Prove it All Night» (with ’78 intro) were highlights in a show where Bruce, once again, skipped «Waitin’ On a Sunny Day». «Highway To Hell» was the first encore, and both the exquisite «The Wall» and «Thunder Road» closed the show.

Atlanta: deep down into The River

Though Saturday night’s show in Atlanta lasted less than 3 hours, the performance was stellar, and the setlist spectacular. Many of the concert standards were left off (and that included «Spirit in the Night», «Hungry Heart», «Waitin’ On A Sunny Day» and «Darlington County») in favor of a good bunch of songs off the last 2 albums (7 in total) plus 7 songs off The River.

«I’m on a River kind of mood», said Bruce early on, before playing a solo piano version of «Independence Day» (tour premiere), and a lot more tracks from the legendary album: «Drive All Night» (another tour premiere), «Jackson Cage», «Ramrod», «Point Blank», «The Ties That Bind» and «Cadillac Ranch».

There were a lot more nice surprises and additions to the show, from the opening «Clampdown» to the closing «Highway to Hell» and including «Adam Raised a Cain», «She’s the One», «Trapped», «Seeds» or «Tougher Than The Rest». A dream set list for oldtimers. As somebody wrote on Twitter: «All Killer, no filler!»

Raleigh: Pretty Flamingo returns

Springsteen’s second show in North Carolina in a few days featured a 26-song set centered on hits and popular songs, featuring the tour debut of the wonderful Manfred Mann classic «Pretty Flamingo», a song Bruce used to play often from 1975 to 1978 (listen to his great live version from 1978).

Other highlights of the night were the returns of both «Growin’ Up» and «Brilliant Disguise». The show lasted, for the first time this year, less than 3 hours (2h 48m to be exact). Patti was back onstage for this show.

I Wanna Be With You

This uptempo love song was written in 1977 and recorded during sessions for the Darkness on the Edge of Town album. It was left aside along with dozens of other songs that didn’t fit into Bruce’s project. It was re-recorded in 1980 for The River and, again, left in the vault, until its release on Tracks in 1998. It made it onto the set list in Pittsburgh recently, after a 6 year hiatus (last known performance dates from May 2008 in Sunrise, Florida).
