Bruce Springsteen sings at Kennedy Center Honors

In 2009, Springsteen was among those who received the Kennedy Center Honors award in Washington DC, and various artists paid tribute performing his songs, including Sting (with a version of «The Rising»).

On Sunday this year’s honorees were Sting, Al Green, Tom Hanks, Patricia McBride and Lily Tomlin. During the tribute gala Springsteen took the stage with his electric guitar and delivered a version of Sting’s «I Hung My Head».

The concert was recorded and will air December at 9pm ET/PT on CBS.

U2 Minus 1

Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin substituted for Bono last night at U2’s show at Times Square in New York City. The show was a benefit for the World AIDS Day. Bono couldn’t perform as he’s still recovering from his recent bicycle accident.

Kanye West and Carrie Underwood opened, then U2 took the stage and Bruce joined them for two of the bands’ classics: «Where the Streets Have No Name» and «I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For».

The show can be seen online at Youtube (Bruce’s performance begins at 37:22).

The Concert for Valor

For the second time in a few days Bruce was part of another benefit show for war veterans. «The Concert for Valor», held last Tuesday at the National Mall in Washington, featured a long list of musical stars, including Eminem, The Black Keys, Metallica and Rihanna.

PROMISEDLAND

Bruce first came onstage to perform with The Zac Brown Band, with Dave Grohl, for a vibrant version of CCR’s «Fortunate Son» [video].

Springsteen’s own performance included acoustic versions of «The Promised Land», «Born in the U.S.A.» and «Dancing in the Dark». The full show was broadcast live by HBO.

«I’m gonna send this out as a prayer for all of our recently returned vets, who deserve the best care this country can give them… we haven’t gotten there yet. This is for you guys.»  (Bruce Springsteen)
