Remembering the Big Man

Today Clarence Clemons would have turned 70. The legendary E Street Band saxophonist died in June 2011. While Bruce Springsteen readies the release of his new album (to be announced very soon) we will remember today one of the songs that Clarence recorded for his album Rescue: «A Woman’s Got The Power», published in 1983. Bruce Springsteen makes a cameo in this video (guess where? At a car wash!). J.T.Bowen is on lead vocals.

Steve Van Zandt to star new mobster series

Steve Van Zandt returns to the mafia. After playing the role of Silvio Dante in The Sopranos, Steve returns to actoring in the new series Lilyhammer. Produced by Rubicon TV, the show debuts on February 6th at Netflix (only in the USA and Canada), and then other networks abroad.

In Lilyhammer the E Street Band member plays the role of Frank «The Fixer» Tagliano, a mobster entering the witness protection program that decides to move to the Norwegian town of Lillehammer, site of the ’94 Winter Olympic Games. Tagliano, a sports fan, is hoping that “Lilyhammer”, as he pronounces it, will offer him more than “Clean air, fresh white snow and gorgeous broads”, contrary to his life of crime in New York City. He knows that he is a marked man and figures nobody will ever find him there. That was his second mistake – the first was ratting out the Delucci Family…

Remembering January 5, 1973

January 5th 1973. On that day 39 years ago started one of the most exciting careers in the history of rock. That day in 1973 Bruce Springsteen published his first album, titled Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ. «Blinded by the Light» was the first single, released Feb.23rd 1973, and went quite unnoticed. It was followed by a second single, «Spirit in the Night», released May 11th 1973. The album sold only 15,000 copies that year and garnered some good reviews. Later that year Springsteen would release a second album.

Nils Lofgren talks about the future of the E Street Band

Nils was interviewed recently by Jam Showbiz, and he commented about the upcoming future of The E Street Band: “It’s going to be rough, I miss Clarence terribly. I stood next to him for 27 years — and we had a much deeper friendship offstage. Now, I’m never going to stand next to him again. That’s painful in my mind and heart; to actually live it is going to be painful too».

Though he doesn’t give details about Springsteen’s forthcoming album or tour or who’s gonna replace Clarence, he feels happy to be back on the road with the band: “I’m thrilled and proud that Bruce has decided to challenge us. Because we can’t be the band we were. There’s no Clarence 2. So we have to find out what kind of band we can be without Clarence, and how great a gift we can share musically with whoever wants to show up».
