Landau about the new album: «It was an experimental effort»

Rolling Stone has published today an interview with Jon Landau, Bruce Springsteen’s manager. He describes the new album as «an experimental effort with a new producer» and a «rock record that combines elements of both Bruce’s classic sound and his Seeger Sessions experience, with new textures and styles».

The article also mentions Spring & Fall tours in the U.S.

Bruce Springsteen rocks Light of Day

On Saturday, Bruce Springsteen joined again the Light of Day benefit show. What began a decade ago as a small benefit concert to raise funds to fight Parkinson’s disease, has become a full 5-day festival with concerts in New Jersey and New York. On Thursday Steve Van Zandt attended the New York Light of Day show, Garry Tallent took the stage on Friday to play with Sonny Kenn, and on Saturday both Max Weinberg and Bruce Springsteen made their appearance on the festival’s main concert at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park (which gave rise to speculation about an impromptu performance with the E Street Band).

The first surprise, though,  arrived on Friday, when Springsteen appeared on the streets of Asbury Park, with a video crew. Apparently he was filming in Mattison Avenue some scenes for a video for a song off his upcoming album. A dozen European fans approached the artist and ended up as extras in the video.

On Saturday at the Paramount Theatre, Bruce showed up and went on stage to sing duets with Garland Jeffreys («Wild in the Streets») and Willie Nile («One Guitar»), and later on returned to the stage again with an acoustic guitar, surprising everyone with an acoustic version of «Incident on 57th Street». Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers came on next, and Bruce joined in the second song. The setlist was nearly identical to the previous year’s concert, with «Darkness on the Edge of Town», «Save my Love», «Atlantic City» or the very rockin’ and electrifying versions of «Johnny 99» and «Adam Raised a Cain», mixed with Grushecky’s own songs («Never Be Enough Time», «I’m Not Sleeping», «Pumpin ‘Iron»…), ending the set with «Light of Day» (with Max on drums), followed by «The Promised Land» and «Twist and Shout» in the encores, and closing with an acoustic «Thunder Road». For many attendees, one of his best performances ever in the Light of Day concerts.
