Once again Bruce Springsteen will be the headliner of the Stand Up For Heroes benefit show. Other artists performing this year include Louis C.K., John Mulaney, John Oliver, Brian Williams and other surprise acts. Now in its 8th year, Stand Up for Heroes has raised more than $21 million in funds to help post-9/11 injured service members and their families thrive long after they return to the home front.

The show will be held on November 5th at 8pm at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden, in New York City. Tickets are available now thru the Bob Woodruff Foundation website.

 

According to Deadline Hollywood and norweggian newspaper Dagbladet, Steve Van Zandt has recruited Tony Sirico (‘Paulie’ in The Sopranos) and Bruce Springsteen for the third season of his TV series Lilyhammer. The news has been confirmed by Peter Wallace, producer and external manager at NRK, Norway’s public TV.

Bruce will make a cameo in an episode, playing the role of a mortuary owner, in what will be his acting debut. He had previously appeared in the movie High Fidelity -see video below- though he was playing himself.

The Friends of the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection have announced two special events in September related to Bruce Springsteen: a Springsteen-themed forum on September 20, plus «An Evening With Thom Zimny» on September 23, a big-screen presentation for which Zimny will show some unseen footage from the Springsteen vaults.

On Saturday, September 20, from 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., the Friends and Monmouth University will sponsor a unique Springsteen-themed forum entitled Fifty Years of “Makin’ This Guitar Talk,” in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s first major steps towards becoming a professional musician. The “Fifty Years Forum” will be held on the University’s campus in West Long Branch, NJ, the home of the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection, in conjunction with the university’s gallery-exhibition entitled Glory Bound: Photographs by Barry Schneier (featuring photos from the 1974 concert that inspired Jon Landau to write his famous column proclaiming, “I saw rock and roll future and its name is Bruce Springsteen.”)

The structure of the forum will be centered around a series of moderated panel discussions on various Springsteen-related topics, allowing the audience to hear from and interact with a variety of authors and scholars. As of this writing, the confirmed panelists who will be in attendance are Jim Beviglia, Denise Green, Marianne Murawski, Christopher Phillips, Shawn Poole, Holly Cara Price, Linda K. Randall, Barry Schneier, Jamez Chang, Jen Conley, Mark Kranjak, James Petersen, Chuck Regan, William I. Wolff and Azzan Yadin-Israel.

Panel topics, as well as more authors and scholars, will be announced as they are confirmed. Topics currently under consideration include “Bruce Springsteen’s Evolving Relationship With His Audience(s),” “Springsteen’s Best Songs,” “Springsteen & Live Performance,” “Springsteen & Media Through the Years,” etc.

For interested fans, there will be time and space allotted for authors’ book sales/signings. The day’s agenda also will include several live performances of Springsteen’s music by students from Monmouth University and Asbury Park, NJ’s Lakehouse Music Academy.

On the evening of Tuesday, September 23, in celebration of Bruce Springsteen’s 65th birthday, Friends of The Bruce Springsteen Special Collection and Monmouth University will present An Evening With Thom Zimny. This event will take place beginning at 7 p.m. inside Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ, the home of The Bruce Springsteen Special Collection.

For this unique celebratory evening, Zimny is “digging deep” into the Springsteen film/video archives for a rare big-screen presentation. He’ll be bringing some treats from the vault and showing all of his selections with high-quality visuals and sound using Pollak Theatre’s state-of-the-art projection system. Suffice it to say that if you are a Springsteen fan, you won’t want to miss this special night.
