The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story».

CD 1: REMASTERED ‘DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN’

The Promise ofrece simplemente una magnífica experiencia auditiva».

Este concierto en Houston incluye practicamente las mismas canciones que aquel (excepto ‘Factory’ y ‘Raise Your hand’), con el añadido de tres extras (‘Saint in the City’, ‘Independence Day’ y ‘You Can’t Sit Down’). Del concierto destacan las largas e intensas versiones de ‘Prove it all night’ (con una electrizante introducción de piano y guitarra), ‘Because the Night’, ‘Backstreets’, ‘She’s the One’ o la delirante ‘Quarter to Three’.

RIP Phil Petillo (1964-2010)

Phil Petillo, master luthier, engineer and inventor, passed away last Friday at age 64. A close friend of Springsteen since he sold him the famous Esquire guitar that appears on the cover of Born to Run, Petillo was a worldwide famous luthier that had worked for many rock stars such as Paul McCartney, Sting, Keith Richards, Tom Petty or Jim Croce.

In 1978 Bruce Springsteen thanked him publicly for his work and dedication, during a concert in Passaic, New Jersey, before Bruce used the famous guitar for a wonderful intro to «Prove it All Night» (see video).

RIP Phil Petillo (1946-2010)

Darkness documentary premieres in Toronto in September

The album Darkness on the Edge of Town will be reissued this year in a commemorative box whose final details have not yet been disclosed. But meanwhile, in a statement released today Springsteen’s publicist has announced the documentary that will accompany the album, directed by Thom Zimny and named «The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town», will premiere Sept. 14th at the International Film Festival Toronto. Zimny has worked with Springsteen in recent years and was the editor of «Wings for Wheels», the documentary DVD included in the 30th anniversary Born to Run boxset.

Thom Powers, the Toronto Festival’s documentary programer, has commented to Indiewire about the documentary: «You see all the twists and turns of the making of this album. And we’re the first people to announce that this film even existed… It’s been in the works for a couple years now in total secrecy. And we’re very proud to be presenting it«. The film recounts the origins of the songs, its evolution and the recording, based on the artist’s personal videos, never before seen, filmed during rehearsals and recording sessions between 1976 and 1978. It is likely that Springsteen will make an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival.
