Small but mighty: Danny Devito sings «Glory Days» with Springsteen at New Jersey’s HOF

Danny DeVito, Jack Nicholson, Philip Roth, Susan Sarandon, Les Paul and others were inducted on Sunday May 2nd into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Springsteen, inducted a year ago, introduced DeVito with these words: «No one inducted to this point physically and temperamentally personifies our state like DeVito. We are small but mighty, he is small but mighty. We have attitude. If you’ve seen Danny in any of his roles, on TV or in the movies, he has Jersey attitude pouring out of him when he’s standing still».

Springsteen and DeVito sang «Glory Days» together.

Bruce Springsteen plays with The Rascals

Little Steven put them together again. The Rascals performed at the Kristen Carr Fund benefit show (A Night to Remember) on Saturday April 24th. Both Steven and his pal Bruce Springsteen couldn’t resist joining the Rascals onstage at the tiny Tribeca Grill in Manhattan, to sing “Good Lovin”. Incidentally, the song is also part of the upcoming Blu-Ray/DVD release Live in Hyde Park.

Springsteen to receive Ellis Island Award

Today, April 22nd, Bruce Springsteen will receive the Ellis Island Family Heritage Award, because of his European roots, as his family came thru Ellis Island from Italy in 1900. The honor, presented by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., is for immigrants or their descendants «who have made a major contribution to the American experience. NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams will emcee the event and former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca, also chairman of the foundation, is presenting the awards. Bruce is not expected to perform at this event, though the organizers say “We’d be thrilled if he came here with a guitar on his back”.

«London Calling: Live in Hyde Park» new Springsteen DVD/Blu-Ray

London Calling: Live in Hyde Park will be released by Columbia Records on June 22nd. The show, filmed at London’s Hyde Park on June 28th 2009, was shot in HD and will be released in two different formats: a Blu-Ray disc and a double DVD. This Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band performance includes 26 song over 163 minutes.

It is surprising that this is the chosen show to represent the Working on a Dream tour, considering it was not really one of the best performances of the tour and Bruce’s voice was particularly soar that night. The shows from the final leg of the tour (including those at Giants Stadium, the Spectrum, MSG or the final night in Buffalo) were simply phenomenal. Maybe the Hyde Park show has been chosen as it’s a more standard, for-the-masses set list and it was shot in HD? Add to this «Rosalita» has been literally amputated from the show.

Back in 2009, Jon Landau said the plans for 2010 included a Working on a Dream tour DVD (Hyde Park) and a Darkness-era box-set, still due.
