Perth #3

The third and final night in Perth featured a 27-song set with 12 new songs not performed at the previous two shows.

Bruce maintains the magnificent «New York City Serenade» as opener, and tonight’s show was followed by an intense rock marathon with «Night», «Saint in the City», «Cover Me», «Radio Nowhere» and «Glory Days».

Some more songs from The River came out, with «Hungry Heart», «Ramrod», «You Can Look» and the majestic «Drive All Night».

The first encore featured the epic «Backstreets», plus a welcome «Seven Nights to Rock» and «Bobby Jean» as closing song. The next show, in Adelaida, will be this next Monday, January 30th.

The second night of the Australian tour featured a set completely different from Night #1, with 16 different songs no less.

It was a shorter set, clocking in at 2 hours and 46 minutes, with less songs from the early days and a bigger selection of classics and greatest hits, with «Thunder Road», «Prove it All Night», «My Love Will Not Let You Down», «Two Hearts», «Hungry Heart», «The River», «Wrecking Ball» or «Jungleland», finishing the show with «Rosalita».

«We are the new American resistance»

Bruce Springsteen returned to Australia after three years, with a show (the first of three) in Perth, Western Australia.

As in the final leg of the US River tour, the show opened with a beautiful version of «New York City Serenade» (string section included), which was followed by a speech about the current political state in his homeland:

«The E Street Band is glad to be here in Western Australia. We’re a long way from home, and our hearts and spirits are with the hundreds of thousands of women and men who marched today in every city in America — and in Melbourne! — who rallied against hate and division and in support of tolerance, inclusion, reproductive rights, civil rights, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, the environment, wage equality, gender equality, healthcare and immigrant rights. We stand with you. We are the new American resistance»

The show continued with a mix of hits, political and social songs («American Skin», «The Promised Land», «Darkness on the Edge of Town», «My Hometown», «Lonesome Day», «Land of Hope and Dreams»…) and a long segment of songs written in 1973, off his first two albums (including «Kitty’s Back», «Incident on 57th Street» and «Rosalita»), lasting a total of three hours and twenty-six minutes.

The encores started with an acoustic «Blood Brothers», after a massive request in the pit.

Before the first show Bruce had a meeting with the local & national Australian media.
