Dave Marsh y Jim Rotolo estaban en directo en su programa «Live From E Street Nation» el pasado miércoles cuando suena el teléfono y… es Bruce Springsteen quien llama: «Estaba escuchando el programa en el coche, de vuelta del gimnasio, y he pensado en llamaros…».
Durante la llamada en directo, de 10 minutos de duración, Bruce comentó su reciente actuación con Garry Tallent y Southside Johnny del sábado anterior, aprovechó para agradecer la gran acogida que ha tenido Western Stars y concluyó anunciando una película sobre el álbum que se distribuirá antes de acabar el año. Así lo contaba él mismo:
«Hicimos una película del álbum Western Stars. Tocamos el disco de principio a fin, y algunas otras canciones. Como sabíamos que no íbamos a salir de gira buscamos la manera de mostrar esa música en directo ante el público, y pensamos que esa sería la mejor forma de hacerlo… pasamos un gran rato, y esperamos que llegue a los fans en cuanto sea posible».

July 10th. Bruce called out of nowhere while Dave Marsh and Jim Rotolo were hosting E Street Radio’s show Live from E Street Nation. During the 10-minute chat Bruce thanked his fans for all their support, commented on his guest appearance in Asbury Park the previous week and announced they made a film of the Western Stars album played live, along «with some other things».

Out of the blue Bruce phoned E Street Radio this morning during Dave Marsh’s program, and talked in lenght about the new tour and the solo project he was working on.
«The project I’ve been working on is more of a solo project, It wasn’t a project I was going to probably take the band out on. So I said, ‘Gee, that’s going to push the band playing again until a ways in the future. It’ll be nice to get some playing in so you don’t wind up being two or three years between E Street tours.’ This will give us a chance to get out there and stretch our muscles a little bit.»
«We made the box set and there was no plan to tour. Then we felt, ‘Maybe we should do a show just to raise the flag and have some fun and make it a little more exciting.’ I said. ‘Okay, maybe we’ll do a show in New York.’ Then that went quick to, ‘Maybe we should do a couple of shows.’ Then it turns into, ‘Maybe we should do a small series of shows, basically one-nighters, with maybe a little bit around the country.»
«We ended up with that idea, it seemed, if you’re going to get everyone together, then you might as well play it out a few times, get a chance to see everybody. And of course, the idea, was to do «The River» top to bottom, and my recollection was that it was a very good night of music when we played it at the Garden. It’s something that we haven’t done; something unique for the fans. If you were ever curious to hear it played in concert, this is a shot for you to hear it.»
«It’s going to take a little guessing out of the evening. You’re going to know what the next song is. Maybe we’ll make up for some of that in the encores. We plan on picking out some of the best of our outtakes for the end of the show, along with obviously be some fan favorites. I don’t know myself how it will play out. It should be interesting and a lot of fun for the fans.»
«We just stripped it down to the basic band it’s been since 1985, including Steve. Of course, Jake will be along, and Soozie Tyrell. It’s a little bit more of a rock band format, I’m looking forward to that for a little while, seeing how that feels again.»

Dave Marsh estaba haciendo su programa en E Street Radio el miércoles por la mañana, respondiendo a las preguntas de los oyentes, cuando ha entrado una llamada… del propio Bruce Springsteen, que estaba escuchando el programa y quería aclarar algunas dudas.
«Estaba trabajando en un proyecto en solitario, y no era un proyecto para salir de gira con banda, así que pensé que eso haría que no tocara con el grupo hasta un futuro lejano. Estará bien tocar de nuevo y no esperar dos o tres años entre giras con la E Street Band».
«Teníamos la caja lista y no había planes de gira. Luego pensamos que podríamos dar un concierto, para llamar la atención y divertirnos y hacerlo todo un poco más excitante. Dije, bueno, quizá demos un concierto en Nueva York. Eso pronto se convirtió en ‘Quizá deberíamos dar un par de conciertos’, y de ahí a ‘Quizá deberíamos dar una pequeña serie de conciertos, básicamente de una sola noche por ciudad, alrededor del país».
«Así acabamos con esa idea. Y ya puestos, si nos vamos a reunir todos, mejor tocamos unas cuantas veces y así vemos a todo el mundo. Y, claro, la idea era tocar The River de principio a fin. Recuerdo que fue una gran noche de música cuando lo tocamos en el Madison Square Garden. Es algo que no hemos hecho más, algo único para los fans. Si alguna vez te ha interesado oírlo en directo, esta es tu oportunidad».
«Se perderá un poco el factor sorpresa, porque sabrás qué canción viene a continuación. Compensaremos eso en los bises. Estamos planeando tocar alguna de las mejores inéditas al final del concierto, junto a, obviamente, algunas de las favoritas de los fans».
«Teníamos otro álbum doble con material realmente bueno. Creamos un montón de música en ese periodo, y gran parte se ha mantenido muy bien. Tengo ganas de tocar algunas de esas canciones. Me lo pasé muy bien sacándolo del baúl y dándole brillo».
El propio Bruce Springsteen será el encargado de presentar el programa «The Ties That Bind Radio Special» en la emisora por satélite Sirius XM Radio, en el canal E Street Radio. El programa se estrena hoy y se emitirá en varias ocasiones hasta el 4 de diciembre.
Durante el programa Springsteen hablará de la nueva caja y pinchará temas inéditos, versiones acústicas y canciones en directo de la gira de The River.
