Bruce Springsteen offers two hours of rock’n’roll in Asbury Park
As he’s done three other times since his son Evan started attending Boston College, Bruce Springsteen offered a private benefit show for the school last Saturday, November 16th at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
The show, at over a thousand dollars per ticket, was held to help out students in need. About 400 people attended and enjoyed the 2-hour, 22-song set, which opened with a version of Wilson Pickett’s «634-5789».
Next were «Seven Nights to Rock» and «Darlington County», plus many Springsteen hits («Born to Run», «Dancing in the Dark», «Rosalita») and songs from his Asbury-based first two albums such as «Sandy», «Spirit in the Night» or «Growin’ Up».
Rock’n’roll standards «Detroit Medley» and «Twist & Shout» closed the show, with the Bobby Bandiera band and Max Weinberg on several songs, before Bruce said goodbye all alone with an acoustic version of «Thunder Road».
