Goteborg

The first show in Goteborg featured two tour premieres («Girls in Their Summer Clothes» and the enormous «Drive All Night», with great vocals from Bruce and an excellent job from Jake on the sax solos), after an spectacular opening with 5 rock songs in a row («The Promised Land», «Prove it All Night», «Cover Me», «Something in the Night» and «My Love Will Not Let You Down») before playing «We Take Care Of Our Own» and the new songs off Wrecking Ball. The encores went on and on (including «Rosalita») making it for a lenghty show, lasting 3 hours and 42 minutes.

Bergen #2

Expectations were high for the second concert in Bergen. We know that Bruce Springsteen will never offer the same setlist night after night, specially when he has a two-night stand in a city, but the second show in Bergen was not just «a different show». Bruce did not disappoint: he sang 17 different songs from the first day. The concert was full of surprises from the beginning, opening with the acoustic version of «Long Walk Home» (with him playing his guitar before appearing onstage from the back). The band then joined and they played «We Take Care of Our Own», followed by the tour premiere of «My Lucky Day», just the second song to be played this year off Working on a Dream.

«Spirit in the Night» was skipped at this show and replaced by a great «The E Street Shuffle», followed by some unexpected premieres: «Red Headed Woman» and CCR’s «Proud Mary», then followed by a great «Fire», sung in he small stage. And then, for the second night in a row, came «This Depression», only this time it was a full band version, to great effect.

The rest of the show kept in the same line, with an impossible-to-guess set list, with the world premiere of «You’ve Got it» (the only song left from the new album to be played live), exciting old classics («Youngstown», «Racing in the Street» and «Rosalita») and «Seven Nights to Rock» and «American Land» in the encores, before finally leaving the stage with his right-hand fingers literally bleeding. For «Dancing in the Dark» Bruce didn’t bring up any girls onstage to dance, but instead he did it at the end of «Rosalita» (the girl who requested the song ended up onstage to sing and dance with Bruce).

Bergen

In the rainy and cold city of Bergen Springsteen offered concert of a two-night stand, opening with a wonderful acoustic version of «Who’ll Stop the Rain?» (with just Roy on the piano) followed by «Downbound Train» («let’s play another rain song», said Bruce) and «Cover Me» (tour premiere). The concert included the very rare «Seaside Bar Song» (written in 1973 and released on the Tracks boxset), the tour premiere of «This Depression» (acoustic, with Bruce playing the 12-string guitar), «For You» (solo piano) or «Radio Nowhere» and «Badlands» closing the set. The encore began with «I’m On Fire», one of seven songs off Born in the USA performed yesterday, thus reducing the number of songs from Wrecking Ball to only five, as he skipped regulars like «Land of Hope and Dreams», «We Are Alive» or «Rocky Ground».

During «Dancing in the Dark» two girls took the stage: one to dance with Bruce, while the other approached Max Weinberg, asked him to play and got the OK to actually play the drums (and did well). A unique moment, which Bruce confirmed saying «this has never happened before!». On two occasions, during «Tenth Avenue» and «Twist and Shout», a little girl took the stage to soak Bruce with the yellow sponge that Steve often uses at the shows.
