Bruce Springsteen performed last night at the L.A. Convention Center in a tribute concert organized by MusiCares. Taylor received the «Person of the Year» award. Springsteen came onstage with guitar and harmonica to perform «Millworker» and said Taylor was «an authentic Southern voice». He said Taylor starred in his favorite movie, «Two-Lane Blacktop», a 1971 film about two men drag racing across America in a 1955 Chevy.
Bruce Springsteen was confirmed yesterday to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, to be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8th. Bruce was nominated in 5 different categories (Song of the Year, for «Devils & Dust»; Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, for «Devils & Dust»; Best Rock Song, for «Devils & Dust»; Best Contemporary Folk Album, for «Devils & Dust»; Best Long Form Music Video, for «Devils & Dust» directed by Danny Clinch) and will probably perform an acoustic version of the song «Devils & Dust». The event will be telecast on the CBS Television Network.
The 1987 documentary film «Hail! Hail! Rock’n’roll» will be released as a double DVD this summer. There’ll be a special extended version with 4 DVDs which will include more than 7 hours of additional concert & interview footage. The original film, shot in St.Louis during Chuck Berry’s 60th Anniversary concert, featured live performances with Keith Richards, Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Robert Cray and Julian Lennon, plus assorted interviews (including one with Bruce Springsteen about the 1973 where the E Street Band was used as Berry’s backup band at a concert).
While waiting for a new studio album, Bruce delivers on February 28th a new live album. Unfortunately, it’s anything but new, because the new 2CD set will contain the complete Hammersmith Odeon show from Nov.11, 1975. Yes, the same one you all have on the DVD from the recent Born to Run box set. Still, it’s a phenomenal Bruce Springsteen performance and hopefully not the last of its kind. «Hammersmith Odeon 1975» includes the very same 16 tracks available on the DVD, split onto two compact discs.
According to an UPI press release, Bruce is amongst the artists featured to perform at a MusiCare «Person of the Year» concert on February 6th at the Los Angeles Convention Centre. The show will be a tribute to James Taylor (chosen as 2006 honoree «for his musical achievements and philanthropic commitment to arts, environmental and humanitarian causes») and other musicians on the bill include James Taylor, Sting, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, The Dixie Chicks, India.arie, Carole King, Alison Krauss and others.
