First 2008 show brings tour debuts

It was a great night for those attending the first show of 2008, as Springsteen debuted three new songs, including the opening tune: «So Young and in Love», a 1974 song off the Tracks box set. Plus, it was a great performance, as if the tour hadn’t had a 2-month break.

Next was the debut of «Loose Ends» (in the «Reason to Believe» /»She’s the One» sandwitch) and «Janey Don’t You Lose Heart» (with Nils shining on vocals and singing the second verse).

Come the encores «Dancing in the Dark» dissapears, but Bruce balanced it with a tremendous «Backstreets» followed by «Kitty’s Back», and then «Born to run».

Patti Scialfa is still absent, and so is Danny Federici, though Bruce mentioned that Danny «is doing all right. Hopefully he’ll make it out for a few shows on this leg of the tour».

1973 Springsteen concert streaming on the web

Wolfgang’s Vault, the memorabilia store, has a 1973 Bruce Springsteen concert available to listen on their site. It’s the concert from Max’s Kansas City in New York recorded on January 31st 1973. This is the concert which provided the classic and well known performances of «Bishop Dance» (broadcast on the famous King Biscuit Flower Hour program and released on the 4CD box Tracks) and «Thundercrack» (released, on an edited version, in numerous bootlegs, including the classic Fire on the fingertips).

The recording includes the 6 songs from the early show, plus 2 from the late show on the same day. Apart from well known classics such as «Spirit in the Night» or «Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?», the show features rare and unreleased songs like «Saga of the Architect Angel» and «Song to the Orphans».
