Springsteen guests at Austin Music Awards

Bruce Springsteen surprised attendees of the Austin Music Awards when he joined Alejandro Escovedo on stage yesterday. Alejandro performed at the Award ceremony, and after a few songs was joined by many musician friends such as Joe Ely, Amy Cook or Garland Jeffreys. A few songs into the set, Springsteen walked onstage with his guitar and joined the group. Alejandro talked about his first performance with Bruce some years ago, and then they performed «Midnight Train», «Always a Friend», «Going Down The Road Feeling Bad» and the Stones classic «Beast of Burden».

Today Bruce will deliver his keynote address at SXSW at noon, which will be webcast by NPR. And finally tonight Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will perform at the Moody Theatre in Austin in front of a selected audience.

Talk to Me: The Rolling Stone interview

Rolling Stone has published an excerpt of the interview Jon Stewart had with Bruce Springsteen, which will be published on the March 29th issue.

«Springsteen intended to have Clemons on the new album, but says he passed on a recording session to check out his health and soon after had a stroke. Springsteen went to Clemons’ bedside. Clemons squeezed his hand when Springsteen spoke, but Clemons never regained consciousness. After Clemons died, producer Ron Aniello took a live rendition of the concert staple «Land of Hopes and Dreams,» separated Clemons’ part and put it into a studio version. Springsteen said: «When the solo section hit, Clarence’s sax filled the room. I cried.»

GA procedures

For those with General Admission tickets: take a good look at the GA procedures published by the Greensboro Coliseum, as they might be useful even if you’re not attending this particular show.

From 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., sequentially numbered wristbands will be distributed to patrons in possession of a valid GA ticket (patrons are asked not to attempt to line up prior to 1:00 p.m.). There will be a limit of one wristband per patron in possession of a valid GA ticket.

Patrons who have received a wristband may leave the premises. They must return by 4:30 p.m. A starting number will be randomly drawn at 4:30 p.m. and announced at that time. The patron wearing the wristband that matches the starting number will become first in line (i.e. if wristbands No. 1-100 were issued, and No. 27 was drawn, the line would start with 27, then 28, 29, 30 through 100, then from No. 1 to 26).
