David Gahr’s Springsteen photobook published

David Gahr was undoubtedly one of the most celebrated rock photographers. Born in 1922, he witnessed the rock’n’roll explosion since the 50s, and photographed Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Buddy Guy, Odetta, Phil Spector and many more, including, of course, Bruce Springsteen.

Gahr started following the New Jersey singer in 1973, and is the author of the cover photo of the album The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle. His black and white photos occupied innumerable pages in magazines and books (including Dave Marsh’s acclaimed biography Born to Run).

When Mr. Gahr died in 2008, he left a legacy of thousands of photographs. This month Rizzoli has published the book Bruce Springsteen: From Asbury Park, to Born To Run, to Born In The USA, featuring a huge selection of color and black and white photos taken between 1973 and 1986, thus covering the artist’s career from his early days in Asbury Park until the worldwide succes of Born in the USA.
