Bruce rocks the Pony with E Streeters

Springsteen & Asbury Park, once again. Saturday night Bruce Springsteen held a concert to benefit the Boston College (as he did last January for the Ranney School). Along with the Bobby Bandiera Band, Roy Bittan, Max Weinberg, a 4-piece horn section and JT Bowen as guest, Bruce delivered a hi-energy 25-song set.

According to  Stan Goldstein at Nj.comthe show at the Stone Pony last 2 hours and 35 minutes, and in attendance were NJ governor Chris Christie, actor Tim Robbins and NBCN newsman Brian Williams. It was the usual mix of classic covers, soul duets with JT Bowen («Soul Man», «In the Midnight Hour», «Havin’ a Party»…)  plus many old & new Springsteen tunes («My Lucky Day», «Working on a Dream», «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out», «Rosalita», «Born to run», «Glory Days»…). During «Spirit in the Night» Bruce walked thru the audience and jumped on top of the bar (as he later did during «Waitin’ on a Sunny Day», only he crossed the whole club to the furthest bar across the bathrooms), remembered his early days in Asbury when he wrote «Growin’ Up» or «Sandy», both performed at Saturday’s private show, and ended the show with an acoustic «Thunder Road».
