Hanging Rock

Bruce Springsteen said goodbye to Australia with two outdoor concerts at Hanging Rock, with 17,000 people per night and all tickets sold out.

The first show started strongly with «Badlands», «Prove It All Night» and «High Hopes», and was filled with hits and Bruce’s most popular songs such as «Hungry Heart», «The River», «Atlantic City», «Pay Me My Money Down», «Darlington County», «Waitin’ on a Sunny Day», «The Promised Land», «The Rising», «Thunder Road» and «Glory Days» as well as the rarely performed «Tougher Than The Rest», with Australian singer Jimmy Barnes guesting.

An electric solo version of «If I Should Fall Behind» in the encore was followed by a request for «Because the Night», with Bruce doing the guitar solo on this occasion. «My City of Ruins» was left off the set again, and the band was introduced in the middle of «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out».

The second night saw Bruce and the band full of energy for their tenth and last concert in Australia. «Adam Raised a Cain» set the tone for a very strong concert. It was followed with force with «Candy’s Room», «She’s the One» and «Something in the Night». Later came a double dose off The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle album, with «The E Street Shuffle» and «Incident on 57th Street», which included a long solo from Bruce at the end.

The welcome «Tougher Than The Rest» was again sung as a duo with veteran Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes, before rolling into an unstoppable trio formed by «Because the Night», the explosive «Jackson Cage» and «Open All Night».

The encores brought a strong «Born in the USA» followed by the usual «Born to Run», «Dancing in the Dark «and» Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out», then Bruce saying he couldn’t stop and getting into an euphoric «Rosalita» and finally «Twist & Shout».

April will be a month off for the band before their return to Europe on the 29th, in Oslo, with Steve Van Zandt back in the band after the completion of the second season of Lilyhammer.

Bruce Springsteen se despidió de Australia con dos conciertos al aire libre en Hanging Rock, ante 17.000 personas por noche y con todas las entradas agotadas.

El primer concierto arrancó con fuerza con «Badlands», «Prove it All Night» y «High Hopes», y estuvo repleto de éxitos y las canciones más populares de Springsteen, como «Hungry Heart», «The River», «Atlantic City», «Pay Me My Money Down», «Darlington County», «Waitin’ on a Sunny Day», «The Promised Land», «The Rising», «Thunder Road» o «Glory Days», además de la poco frecuente «Tougher Than The Rest», para la cual invitó al cantante australiano Jimmy Barnes.

Una versión en solitario de «If I Should Fall Behind» en los bises dio pasó a «Because the Night», con Bruce haciendo el solo de guitarra en esta ocasión. «My City of Ruins» quedó nuevamente apartada, y las presentaciones de los músicos las hizo Bruce durante «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out», al final del concierto.

Bruce reservó energías y sorpresas para la segunda noche, la de su décimo y último concierto en Australia. «Adam Raised a Cain» marcó el inicio de un concierto de rock con mayúsculas, sin concesiones. Le siguieron con fuerza «Candy’s Room, «She’s the One» y «Something in the Night». Más adelante llegó el doble de canciones del álbum The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, con dos joyas como «The E Street Shuffle» e «Incident on 57th Street», con un largo solo de Bruce al final.

En «Tougher Than The Rest» repitió el duo con el veterano Jimmy Barnes, antes de pisar el acelerador con una inflamada «Because the Night», la explosiva «Jackson Cage» y «Open All Night» y su frenesí de vientos. Con un Springsteen ya desbocado en «Badlands» (tras la cual presentó a la banda) continuó, ya en los bises, con la apisonadora que es «Born in the U.S.A.», seguida de las habituales «Born to Run», «Dancing in the Dark» y «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out».

La tensión del concierto final le animó a continuar, esta vez con una eufórica «Rosalita», y finalmente «Twist & Shout», superando las tres horas de concierto.

Abril será un mes de descanso para la banda, hasta el regreso a Europa el día 29, en Oslo, donde Steve Van Zandt volverá a la banda una vez haya concluido la filmación de la segunda temporada de la serie Lilyhammer.
