The 2013 Wrecking Ball Tour kicks off in Brisbane
Bruce Springsteen is back on the road. The Wrecking Ball 2013 tour has started today with a 3-hour & 10-minute show in Brisbane, Australia. For the first time since the first E Street Band reunion in 1995, Steve Van Zandt is not in the band due to his commitment with the Lilyhammer series, currently being filmed in Norway. His substitute during the Australian tour is Tom Morello (The Night Watchman, ex-Rage Against the Machine).
Springsteen, band and crew arrived in Australia last Sunday, and rehearsed behind closed doors during Tuesday and Wednesday. Nils Lofgren has been very active on Twitter these days, uploading photos of his guitar collection. Today the press was invited to the soundcheck and had an informal Q&A with Bruce afterwards. The soundcheck featured interesting covers of Australian band The Saints, The Havalinas («High Hopes») and, according to some Twitter reports, even some riffs from AC/DC‘s «Whole Lotta Rosie».
The show at the Entertainment Center, for 12,000 people, has been a classic Wrecking Ball tour concert, opening with «We Take Care of Our Own» and closing with «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out», featuring all the tour standards such as «Wrecking Ball», «My City of Ruins», «Spirit in the Night», «Jack of All Trades», «Shackled and Drawn», «Waitin’ on a Sunny Day», «Apollo Medley», «The Rising» or «We Are Alive», plus hot rock shots like «Badlands», «Murder Incorporated», «Johnny 99», «Because the Night» and «She’s the One», along with the hyperelectric «The Ghost of Tom Joad», featuring the classic Tom Morello solo. Tom showed his skills on «Murder Inc» too. The biggest surprise of the night was the addition of «Just Like Fire Would», a cover of the revered, local punk-rock band The Saints.
A second show at the Brisbane Entertainment Center is scheduled for this Saturday.

La gira 2013 de Bruce Springsteen arranca en Brisbane, Australia
Bruce Springsteen ha vuelto a la carretera. Y lo ha hecho con un concierto de 3 horas y 10 minutos en Brisbane, Australia, el primero del tour Wrecking Ball 2013. La gira del artista por Oceanía le llevará a cuatro ciudades distintas, para un total de 10 conciertos. Por primera vez desde la primera reunificación de la E Street Band en 1995, Steve Van Zandt no está con el grupo debido a sus compromisos con la serie Lilyhammer, actualmente en fase de filmación en Noruega. Durante la gira australiana su posición la ocupa Tom Morello (The Night Watchman, ex-Rage Against the Machine).
Springsteen y su troupe llegaron a Australia el domingo, y el martes y miércoles estuvieron ensayando a puerta cerrada en Brisbane. Nils Lofgren estuvo muy activo en twitter, publicando fotos de su extensa colección de guitarras. Hoy los medios de comunicación han podido asistir a las pruebas de sonido (durante las cuales Bruce ha ensayado canciones propias junto a versiones de los australianos The Saints, los californianos The Havalinas e incluso unos riffs de «Whole Lotta Rosie» de AC/DC), y a un encuentro informal donde ha respondido a las preguntas de los periodistas.
Por la noche, y ante 12.000 personas, Bruce ha ofrecido un concierto clásico de la gira Wrecking Ball, muy similar a los del inicio de la gira americana de 2012, abriendo con «We Take Care of Our Own» y cerrando horas después con «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out», sin olvidar estándares de la gira como «Wrecking Ball», «My City of Ruins», «Spirit in the Night», «Jack of All Trades», «Shackled and Drawn», «Waitin’ on a Sunny Day», «Apollo Medley», «The Rising» o «We Are Alive».
La vertiente más roquera llegó de la mano de «Badlands», «Murder Incorporated», «Johnny 99», «Because the Night» y «She’s the One», junto a la hiperelectrificada«The Ghost of Tom Joad», con un solo estelar de Tom Morello, quien estuvo a la altura de las circunstancias toda la noche, cumpliendo con su papel sin pretender protagonismo. La sorpresa de la noche fue la segunda canción, «Just Like Fire Would», una versión del grupo de punk-rock The Saints, procedentes de Brisbane.
Springsteen dará un segundo concierto este sábado, de nuevo en el Entertainment Center de Brisbane.
