Philadelphia (#1)
Although the setlist did not vary greatly with respect to previous shows, the first night in Philly featured a special tour premiere: 1973’s «Seaside Bar Song» which Bruce introduced by saying «We played this at the Main Point, I think» and then recalled that he wrote it thinking about The Osprey bar in Manasquan, New Jersey (where he had his first drink): «I thought this was the greatest night of my life. I was seeing Bo Diddley on a small stage… I went home after the show and wrote this song». A great «Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?» was next.
The concert was more intense than the previous one in Boston, with a moving «American Skin» (which he dedicated to the late Trayvon Martin), and a new intro to the «Apollo Medley». Bruce made his first walk into the audience during the medley, and went some rows up to kiss Max Weinberg’s mother, before heading to the pit platform to finish the song and come back to the stage via crowdsurfing.
While the rest of the setlist did not include more tour debuts, it featured strong renditions of «Atlantic City» and «She’s the One» (with stellar sax solos from Jake Clemons) and a long walk into the right side seats during «Raise Your Hand» with Bruce sitting and sharing a fan’s beer.
