The 2008 European Tour has begun tonight with a show in Dublin. «The Promised Land» has been the opening song of a «greatest hits»-oriented show, Bruce going on the safe side playing all the hits that please so many fans, such as «Mary’s Place», «Waitin’ On a Sunny Day», «The River», «Thunder Road» or «Bobby Jean», while most of the stunning material he was doing at the U.S. shows has been left aside (and if you wonder: we mean «Kitty’s Back», «Racing in the Street», «Jungleland», «Streets of Fire», «Rosalita» or some of his finest brand new songs like «Your Own Worst Enemy»). Here’s hoping this was the «first night» syndrome.

Si en noviembre de 2006 Dublin fue la ciudad donde acabó Springsteen su gira (entonces con la Seeger Sessions Band), esta vez ha sido la ciudad donde Bruce Springsteen (ahora con la E Street Band) ha empezado su gira europea en 2008. Aunque con una E Street Band diferente, con Charles Giordano al teclado, sustituyendo al fallecido Danny Federici, y también sin Patti Scialfa.
La gira se ha iniciado con «The Promised Land», y el repertorio de este primer concierto no ha aportado grandes sorpresas sino todo lo contrario. Springsteen ha jugado las bazas seguras y se ha decantando por los éxitos y canciones más conocidas y coreables como «Mary’s Place», «Waitin’ On a Sunny Day», «The River», «Thunder Road» o la inefable y al parecer ineludible «Bobby Jean», mientras algunas de las mejores canciones de su último álbum quedan apartadas. En la tanda de bises, Southside Johnny, el segundo cantante más famoso de Asbury Park, ha subido al escenario para cantar «Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out» con Bruce.
