Are you alive? gritó Bruce al iniciar el concierto. Sabemos que él estaba vivo, porque lo que siguió a esas palabras fue un concierto memorable. Tanto Bruce como la E Street Band estaban en plena forma, al 101%, tocando cada canción con gran pasión e intensidad. Ya desde el primer momento canciones habituales en la gira como «No Surrender» o «Lonesome Day», sonaron con una fuerza especial, fuerza que se reveló en su grado máximo en el estreno de «Streets of Fire», verdadero tour de force que nos transportó directamente al Winterland Ballroom de San Francisco en una fría noche de Diciembre de 1978, cual máquina del tiempo. Una descomunal versión como no se oía en décadas. Pero las sorpresas no acabaron ahí. Tras «Reason to Believe» sonaron «Saint in the City» y «Prove it all Night», ambas repletas de fantásticos solos de guitarra, en particular de Nils Lofgren en esta última, a la cual siguió una trepidante «She’s the One». Más tarde llegaron «Cadillac Ranch» (con todo el público cantando la frase «driving through the Wisconsin night»), y «Loose Ends» (primer bis, en lugar de «Girls») a «petición de Stevie», como dijo Bruce.
Llegados a este punto el concierto era ya un firme candidato a «mejor concierto de la gira», cuando Bruce hace subir al escenario a Richard Davis, legendario bajista negro que tocó en el memorable álbum de Van Morrison «Astral Weeks» (¡compra obligada!). Palabra de Bruce:«Tenemos aquí a Richard Davis, quien tocó el bajo en Astral Weeks de Van Morrison, – y Astral Weeks era como una religión para nosotros». Bruce contó con la colaboración de Davis al bajo en sus tres primeros discos, en canciones como «The Angel» o la que tocaron a continuación (con el invitado al contrabajo): «Meeting Across the River», a la cual siguió, como se esperaba, una impecable versión de «Jungleland», con Clarence clavando el histórico solo de saxo. Y no he hablado de otras canciones, fijas en la gira, como «Devil’s Arcade», «Long Walk Home», «Last to Die» o «Gypsy Biker», canciones que se dan por sentado cada día, pero que ayer sonaron todas con precisión y un derroche de energía considerable. Springsteen no bajó la guardia ni un solo minuto en todo el concierto.
Al final del show «Ramrod» sustituyó a «Dancing in the Dark», antes de acabar con «American Land». Para este concierto Springsteen preparó hasta 4 set lists diferentes, que fue modificando hasta momentos antes del inicio. Entre las canciones que consideró (aunque al final no tocó), estaban «Two Hearts», «Jackson Cage», «Be True», «Racing in the street» y «Rosalita». En el día de San Patricio, patrón de Irlanda, muy celebrado en Milwaukee, Bruce se despidió con estas palabras: «May the road always rise to meet you, and the wind be at your back».

Are you alive? yelled Bruce at the beginning of the show. We know for sure he was alive, because what followed next was a truly memorable performance. Both Bruce and the band were in superb shape from the very first note, delivering every song with intensity and passion. You could tell even from the standard songs such as «No Surrender» or «Lonesome Day», which was followed by the highlight of the night: «Streets of Fire» which sounded like a time machine had transported us straight back to the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on a cold December night in 1978. And from one highlight to another: «Saint in the City» followed by «Prove it all Night», both sounding like an earthquake (including fantastic guitar work) right before a stompin’ «She’s the One». And that wasn’t all yet. There was «Cadillac Ranch» (with the «Wisconsin night» line sung by the whole audience), and there was «Loose Ends» (first encore substituting «Girls») at «Stevie’s request», said Bruce.
Up to that point the show was already a candidate to «best show of the tour» (time will tell), when Bruce brought onstage legendary bass player Richard Davis, who had played on Van Morrison’s memorable album «Astral Weeks». In Bruce’s words:«We had Richard Davis, who played bass on [Van Morrison’s] Astral Weeks, come in — and Astral Weeks was like a religion to us». He plays on the first 3 Springsteen albums. Davis then joined Bruce on standup bass to perform a beautiful version of «Meeting Across the River», which was, as expected, followed by «Jungleland», which was just perfect with Clarence nailing the solo. By the end of the show, «Ramrod» substituted «Dancing in the Dark». The show had up to 4 different set lists with different choices, and even the final set list had last minute changes («My hometown» was an audible, and the various handwritten set lists included songs like «Two Hearts», «Jackson Cage», «Be True», «Racing in the street» and «Rosalita»).
