Esta noche, ante un público receptivo y entusiasta, Springsteen ha dado un concierto corto pero muy intenso. Como si tuviera prisa, las canciones se sucedían sin interrupción, sin introducciones, y acortando algunas. «Reason to Believe» casi no tuvo introducción, no ha habido cuarta canción antes de «Gypsy Biker», y ha culminado con una tanda de bises de sólo 4 canciones. Una de las cosas que ha sorprendido, además de la duración, es el inicio del concierto con «Darlington County», que ha puesto en pie a todo el pabellón.
Quizás viendo que el concierto había durado sólo dos horas, Springsteen ha vuelto al escenario un minuto después de abandonarlo tras tocar «American Land» y despedirse, y ha ofrecido una potente versión de «Kitty’s Back» para cerrar definitivamente el concierto.
De la actuación de hoy caben destacar los estrenos de «Lost in the Flood» y «Glory Days» y las versiones de «Prove it all Night» y «Be True» tocadas a petición del público. Los numerosos letreros pidiendo «Rosalita» se quedaron sin respuesta. En «Dancing in the Dark» ha vuelto a sacar a bailar a Hannah, la niña que ya bailó con Springsteen en el concierto anterior en Indianapolis.

«Tenemos algo especial esta noche, Danny Federici está con nosotros», anuncia Springsteen, y el público estalla en una ovación. Y realmente fue una noche especial. Con 8 cambios respecto al concierto en Milwaukee (un concierto colosal para recordar durante años), ‘Indy’ recibió un baño de sorpresas y momentos emocionantes. Tanto «Prove it all Night» (con un estruendoso solo de guitarra al final) como «Rendezvous» (debut en la gira) fueron peticiones del público. Bruce se acerca a la primera fila, observa los distintos letreros que se levantan entre las cabezas y escoge uno de ellos, lo muestra a la cámara y a la banda y tocan la canción solicitada.
Cuando termina «Livin’ in the Future» Danny sube al escenario para tocar en «The Promised Land» y a continuación suenan «Spirit in the Night» y «Sandy» (con Danny al acordeón), que nos trasladan temporalmente a 1973.
El show continúa luego con Charlie, y ya en la tanda de bises Danny regresa para quedarse hasta el final y recibir numerosas muestras de afecto tanto del público como de sus compañeros de banda, pendientes de él en todo momento. «Todos vamos a dedicar esta canción a Dan», dice Bruce segundos antes de que las mágicas notas de piano de Roy den inicio a una emotiva versión de «Backstreets«. Y a continuación, sin tiempo para recuperarnos, suena «Kitty’s Back», en una versión apoteósica con especial énfasis en los solos de Federici, con Bruce subido a la tarima del órgano disfrutando del momento y dando apoyo a su amigo, para seguir con largos solos de piano y guitarra que llevan al éxtasis a los 15.000 asistentes. Sin parada empalman directamente con «Born to Run», triumfal y épica, seguida de una acelerada «Dancing in the Dark» (durante la cual Bruce saca a bailar a una niña, dos veces). «American Land», con Danny y Roy al acordeón y Charlie de nuevo al órgano, pone punto final a una noche única donde, sin descanso, Springsteen y la E Street Band dan más en un escenario de lo que nadie pueda esperar a priori, por muy preparado que se vaya al concierto. ¿Qué pasará mañana en Cincinnati?

Danny is back! The crowd erupted when Bruce mentioned «we got a special treat tonight, Danny Federici is with us». And what a treat it was, and what a show. With 8 changes over the previous show in Milwaukee (still a colossal show to remember), Indy got a lot of rarities and emotional performances. Both «Prove it all Night» (blistering guitar solo at the end) and «Rendezvous» (tour debut) were audience requests, with Bruce taking the signs from the front rows and showing them to the cameras.
By the time «Livin’ in the Future» ended Danny joined the band for «The Promised Land» and then (with Bruce saying «He’s gonna make me go old school on you!») «Spirit in the Night» and «Sandy» (with Danny on accordion). The show went on with Charlie again, and by encore time Danny joined the band again for all of the remaining of the show. «We’re all gonna dedicate this to Dan» were Bruce’s words before a stunning «Backstreets» set the tone for an emotional set of songs. And then a truly phenomenal, exhilarating version of «Kitty’s Back» followed, then a triumphal and epic «Born to Run» followed by a fun «Dancing in the Dark» (with Hannah, a little girl, dancing with Bruce onstage… twice!) and «American Land», again with Danny on accordion and Charlie at the organ. After two of the best shows in years, what else must be left for Cincinnati? We’ll soon find out.
