An official press release announced yesterday the addition of 2 more shows
at Giants Stadium for August 28th and August 30th. Tickets for both shows will
go onsale saturday March 8th at 9am. Here's copy of the official press release:
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Add Two Shows to Record-Breaking Summer
2003 Giants Stadium Run, Bringing Total to Nine Nights Scheduled
New dates, August 28 and August 30, go on sale Saturday, March 8 at 9am
Series of nine shows at one stadium is first for any performer worldwide
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band further shatter records for ticket sales,
as they add two additional shows to their summer 2003 run at East Rutherford,
NJ's Giants Stadium. The new dates, August 28 and August 30, will go on sale Saturday,
March 8 at 9am through Ticketmaster only. Tickets will not be sold at the Continental
Airlines Arena or Giants Stadium box offices on Saturday, March 8. This announcement
brings the total number of Giants Stadium concerts to nine, an all-time record
for the venue, and the first time in concert history a performer has played nine
stadium shows in the same series.
Tickets will be available online at www.ticketmaster.com, at select Ticketmaster
Ticket Centers in New Jersey, New York and Fairfield, CT and via phone at 201-507-8900,
212-307-7171 or 212-307-7200 - Automated. If tickets remain, they will be available
at the Continental Arena Box Office beginning Monday, March 10 at 11:00 am.
On March 1, demand for three originally announced dates (July 15, 17, 18) was
so great, two additional dates (July 21, 24) were added at 12 noon. Sales continued
to be strong, prompting an additional two dates to go on sale at 2:30 PM (July
26, 27). This marked the first time in the history of Ticketmaster that seven
stadium shows for one artist went on sale in a single day. A limited number of
tickets for these shows are still available.
Springsteen continues to be the top-selling artist to ever perform at the Meadowlands
Sports Complex, which includes Giants Stadium and neighboring Continental Airlines
Arena. Springsteen has played at the Meadowlands 50 times in his career, including
a record 44 performances at the arena and a record 6-show run at Giants Stadium
in 1985 (August 18, 19, 21, 22 and 30, Sept. 1). With the 9-show 2003 run, Springsteen
clears his own high mark and sets a new record.
The successful ticket sales expand on a remarkable February for Springsteen and
the E Street Band, in which Springsteen won three Grammy Awards for his latest
album 'The Rising,' CBS Television aired Springsteen and the E Street Band's first
ever broadcast network special, and the Band resumed its 2002-2003 world tour
with a performance in the Atlanta, GA area.
'The Rising,' Springsteen's first album of new songs with the E Street Band since
1984, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified
double platinum. Throughout 2002, Springsteen and the Band embarked on a barnstorming
tour of North America and Europe, during which they played a total of 45 cities
in nine different countries before the end of the year. U.S. and dates continue
through early 2003,
beginning February 28 in Duluth, GA, as well as a second sold-out European swing.
They'll also travel to Australia and New Zealand, marking their first shows there
since 1988.

SPRINGSTEEN'S TOUR RESUMES
"I'd like to thank absolutely fucking nobody" were the clear words
that opened the first E Street Band show of 2003 in Duluth, Georgia, just a few
days after winning "only" 3 Grammy awards. That first show last friday
opened with "No Surrender". Yesterday in Austin Texas the opening song
was a loud "War" (remember its lyrics: "War, what is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!!"). The show also included an acoustic version of "Growin'
Up" and Joe Ely guesting on two songs on the encores ("All Just To Get
To You" and "Working on the Highway"). The 2003 shows have seen
the dissapearance of "She's the One", which clearly was one of the highlights
of the show.
MORE SUMMER SHOWS ADDED
Tickets for the 3 announced shows at Giants Stadium went on sale last saturday,
and during the course of the day four more shows were added and put on sale, for
July 21, 24, 26 and 27. More US stadium dates are supposed to be announced soon.

SPRINGSTEEN CONQUERS EUROPE
It was about time that Springsteen delivered in Europe the same kind of energy
and set lists that he usually delivers at US shows. The European tour so far has
been great success, both in terms of attendance and musical quality of the show.
Springsteen has earned his fans' heart with his surprising set lists, that include
old and new songs and treasures like the piano version of "Incident on 57th
Street", "For You", "Night", "Something in the Night",
"Spirit in the Night" and others. The energy he delivered in his recent
shows is out of this world and as no one had seen since The River tour, far surpassing
any tours (including 1999/2000) in the last 21 years.
14 October 2002
FIRST SHOW IN EUROPE
No big surprises at the first european concert, but some nice stuff was included

TOUR TO START IN AUGUST, SAYS LITTLE STEVEN
The Boston Globe publishes today an interview with Steve Van Zandt where Springsteen's
sideman announces a new world tour will begin "the second week of August",
though he makes no mention of cities or exact dates.
Here's Steven's words to describe the new Bruce Springsteen album, "The
Rising", due July 30th: "is just terrific... very different, very
interesting and absolutely tremendous. There are elements in it from every record
we've done, but it's not like any of them.''
"There is a very, very coherent theme throughout it. It deals with our state
of mind as a culture in a post-Sept. 11 world. I realized as I listened to it
all the way through that art really plays a vitally important role in our culture.
We're the only culture in the world that ignores art and treats it like a
luxury, but here is a case where there is a feeling that we all have that can't
be verbalized in normal speech, and after I listened to the record, that says
it. Art can actually express the unspeakable.
"The new songs absolutely add up to something greater than the sum of the
parts. It's got that 'Sgt. Pepper' kind of vibe, and I won't be surprised if that
comes up in the reviews. This is the first time you'll hear traces of the Beatles'
influence in the music, which has never been obvious before.''
6 June 2002
TOUR TO BEGIN IN THE FALL, INCLUDING EUROPE
The following is reprinted from the bulletin board at the Greasy
Lake website:
At the London listening party yesterday, Bruce and Jon Landau (who both were in
attendance) said that the plan is to do a US tour this fall, play "selected"
European dates before X-mas ('02), and then return to Europe for a full-fledged
tour next year. This is no rumour, and it's no joke either. It came right out
of the horses' mouths.

SPRINGSTEEN CONFIRMS NEW ALBUM THRU AP INTERVIEW
In an interview with The Associated Press Bruce Springsteen has confirmed that his new album, called "The Rising", will be released on July 30th.
"I woke up one morning, and I had a record," Springsteen joked about his new album, "The Rising," due in stores July 30. Some songs, he said, "deal more directly with it than others, but the stories all happen in a post-Sept. 11 context. If you were writing at that point, it's in everything in some fashion."
The article mentions the song "Empty Sky" which had just recently rumoured to have been added to the album.
The complete article can be read at Yahoo.
And just some minutes ago an official press note was released thru Shorefire Media, confirming the release and the song titles which are:

NEW AUDITION AT SONY MUSIC
There was a new listening party at Sony Music this past thursday May 30. Sony execs listened to the whole album, which some of them considered "unbelievable". Bruce and Patti arrived late and sat in the back of the hall.
After the audition Don Ienner talk about the album and had Bruce say a few words. Bruce commented on how easy it had been to work with Brenadn O'Brien and that what it normally takes him 5 years was now done in only seven months, and he was very happy and anxious to see the album released. Ienner said the album would be released in Jul and Bruce would spend August promoting it and a tour would start in the fall.
edhabló sobre el disco e invitó a Bruce a decir unas palabras. Este contó que había sido muy fácil trabajar con Brendan O'Brien y que el proceso que normalmente le lleva cinco años lo hicieron en sólo siete meses en esta ocasión.
(Some rumours on the internet point to a fall/winter tour in the USA, followed by australian and japanese dates early in 2003, and a visit to Europe in the spring or summer of 2003)
Another recent rumour mentions a 15th track titled "Empty Sky" has been added to the album's song list.
Lastly, Max Weinberg commented last saturday during a lecture in Toronto that the forthcoming album was "unbelievable". According to the Greasy Lake website he indicated that the music was what like all true fans were accustomed to. He did not confirm or deny details of the tour or whether he would be able to take a leave of absense. He also did not respond to a question regarding whether the album would include songs we had heard before such as Further Up the Road or Code of Silence. He said he did not want to spoil it.
An official press release is expected next week.

SPRINGSTEEN RECORDING NEW ALBUM IN ATLANTA
“We’re here writing an recording” answered Bruce to a question
from a fan who met Bruce in the street in Atlanta at the end of
January. The news are that Springsteen and The E Street Band
have been recording new songs at Southern Tracks Studios in
Atlanta, Georgia. Nils Lofgren confirmed the recordings did,
indeed, happen, during a radio interview with Tony Kornheiser:
Nils Lofgren:
Well, at the end of the last tour-- and many times
in recent interviews, with Bob Costas or others-- Bruce has
indicated, as he’s said the whole tour, his commitment to kind of
rededicate himself and the band to the fans and have another
chapter, which involves a record and eventually a tour. Last week,
in Atlanta, we got together -I mean, it was supposed to be a big
secret, but it’s all over every web site there was. There were
“spies” in the parking lot when we were down there, from Italy.
TK: : Is that right?
NL: Yeah. So anyway, this is the first step of what would
have to be many. And you know, I love Bruce and I hope he
takes all those steps, and in a year or so, whatever, on his
timetable, does that. It’s been a treat to be in his band.
Seventeen years ago I joined, and it’s been a great honor.
According
to different sources, Bruce might have recorded
over
20 “demos” last year, which will be the base for
the
new album. Some of them were recorded in April 2001
during
a weekend-long recording session in New York
(when
they were supposed to be recording a studio version
of
“American Skin”). For the first time in many years,
Bruce
has an outside producer for his new album, and it is
no
other than Brendan O’Brien, noted for his work with
Pearl
Jam and Stone Temple Pilots and his hard-edge rock sound.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FOR 2nd LIGHT OF DAY CONCERT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 2, 2001-Concerts East is proud to present The Second Annual Light of Day
Concert to Benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation(PDF).
The inaugural Light of Day concert, at Asbury Park's Stone Pony, culminated with
an appearance by Bruce Springsteen, who sat in with Joe Grushecky and his band.
The event raised nearly $30,000 for Parkinson's research.
On Saturday, November 3 the Tradewinds in Sea Bright, New Jersey will host Joe
Grushecky & No Spring Chickens, La Bamba & The Hubcaps, Highway 9 formerly
known as Samhill, Boccigalupe & The Bad Boys, Joe Bonanno & The Godsons
Of Soul, Joe D'Urso & Stone Caravan, the Danny White Band, Jason Stanley,
Laen Reeves and others to be announced at the Second Annual Light of Day Concert
to Benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation(PDF).
In the past year, Parkinson's Disease has been in the headlines of both scientific
and political news. President Bush allowed limited funding for fetal stem
cell research, an area doctors see as most promising for finding new treatments
and a cure.
For the musicians contributing their time to this event there is a more personal
connection. Bob Benjamin, who manages Grushecky and D'Urso and has worked
with the other musicians on the bill, was diagnosed with PD four years ago at
age 38.
Benjamin and others in the Parkinson's community feel that with all the new research,
the lyrics 'we're just around the corner to the light of day' from Bruce Springsteen's
"Light of Day" could well be their battle cry as research presses on.
PD is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that affects between
one and one-and-a-half million Americans. Because it is not contagious and does
not have to be reported by physicians, the incidence of PD is often underestimated.
PD may appear at any age, but it is uncommon in people younger than 40,
and the risk of developing it increases with age. It occurs in all parts of the
world, and men are affected slightly more often than women.
The PDF (www.pdf.org) is a national, non-profit organization with offices in New
York City and Chicago. The PDF is dedicated to supporting and promoting the highest-quality
research worldwide into the cause(s) and cure of PD, and for better symptomatic
treatments. Founded in 1957, The PDF was the first private foundation in
the United States created specifically to advance research into PD.
Tickets are $30 in advance for general admission tickets. Tickets will go on sale
this Saturday, October 6 at 12 Noon at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster
Online, Ticketmaster charge by phone, Vintage Vinyl in Fords, Ichabod's in Sea
Bright and at the Tradewinds box office.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FOR NOV.6TH DOUBLE DVD RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 10, 2001 "Bruce Springsteen
and the E
Street Band - Live in New York City" to be released November 6 on DVD
Two-DVD set contains acclaimed HBO broadcast in its entirety, along
with 11 additional songs. Fifteen-minute "NYC Serenade" featurette
includes behind-the-scenes interviews with all E Street members, as
well as rare live concert and rehearsal footage. Bruce Springsteen
and the E Street Band's emotional ten-night stand at Madison Square
Garden inspired an Emmy-winning HBO special and a critically
acclaimed live album. Now, "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band -
Live in New York City" will be available as a 2-DVD set to be
released on November 6, 2001. It will feature 11 songs that were not
included in the HBO broadcast, as well as "NYC Serenade," a 15-minute
featurette culled from rare interview, concert and rehearsal footage.
Recorded in full Dolby 5.1 digital surround sound and captured using
Sony's HDCAM 1080/60i high definition format, the DVDs will allow
fans to experience the HBO broadcast on a new level. In addition to
the one hour-50 minute HBO film, there is an hour and twenty minutes
of new live footage * including full performances of "Backstreets,"
"Don't Look Back," "Darkness on the Edge of Town," "Lost
in the
Flood," "Born in the U.S.A.," "Jungleland," "Light
of Day," "The
Promise," "Thunder Road," "Ramrod" and "If I Should
Fall Behind" *
that was not seen on television. There is also a rare live rendition
of "The E Street Shuffle" provided as the backdrop to the video's end
credits. In addition, the "Live in New York City" DVD set includes
"NYC Serenade," which takes viewers behind the scenes of the E Street
Band's triumphant return to New York after more than ten years away
from the road. The fifteen-minute featurette includes performance
footage of 12 songs, including rarities such as "Adam Raised a Cain,"
"Back in Your Arms" and "Blood Brothers;" backstage interviews
with
each band member; and a gallery of backstage and live concert photos.
Documenting what was undeniably the biggest concert event of 2000,
"Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band -"Live in New York City"
garnered extensive praise from critics. According to Entertainment
Weekly's Chris Willman, "With the thrilling new 'Live in New York
City,' Bruce Springsteen gives fans another reason to believe."
Rolling Stone critic Greg Kot wrote, "It's a document of a great
combo still burning to outdo itself." The New York Daily News'
Richard Huff called the broadcast "a moving and ultimately satisfying
stretch of pure music from one of America's most important
songwriters and fiercely energetic performers... the HBO special
gives viewers a unique chance to look in on a stirring rock show that
will stand the test of time." "'Live in New York City'... reminds us
that Springsteen is the most heroic composer in modern pop music and
demonstrates that the E Street Band can still galvanize his songs
into rock-and-roll epiphanies," wrote The Washington Post's Britt
Robson. The triumphant, sold-out set of ten shows at Madison Square
Garden from which "Live in New York City" is culled marked Bruce
Springsteen and the E Street Band's first series of Garden concerts
since 1988's "Tunnel of Love Express" tour, and cemented their number
one position on Pollstar's tracking of the top ten tours of the first
half of 2000. In a New York concert review, USA Today's Elysa Gardner
wrote "whether standing still at his mike or cavorting naughtily with
his bandmates, Springsteen was both a showman and a shaman, capturing
the blend of sex, spirituality and empathy that is the essence of
rock 'n' roll and of most great live entertainment." The E Street
Band is: Roy Bittan - keyboards; Clarence Clemons - saxophone,
percussion; Danny Federici - keyboards; Nils Lofgren - guitars; Patti
Scialfa - vocals, guitar; Garry Tallent -bass; Steven Van Zandt -
guitars; Max Weinberg - drums. Continue to brucespringsteen.net

Skin." Two new Bruce Springsteen songs will world premiere in the
film and on its soundtrack. The first, "Land Of Hope And Dreams," was
debuted as the tour began, and became a signature of the shows, performed
each night as an encore. The song's themes of redemption and community
served as a mirror to the tour that was underway -- Springsteen's first
extended series of concerts together with The E Street Band in over a
decade. The second new song premiered is "American Skin." This
haunting track was debuted on tour during a June 4th concert in Atlanta,
and was subsequently described as "astonishing" by The New York
Post's Jack Newfield. Jon Pareles of The New York Times praised the
song as "a resonant elegy and a reflection on how fear can become deadly."
Six additional songs have been confirmed to appear only on the double
CD, and they are as follows: "Lost In The Flood," "Born In The
U.S.A."
"Don't Look Back," "Jungleland," "Ramrod" and "If
I Should Fall Behind."
In all, 14 of the 19 songs on the double CD represent first-ever releases
of concert performances by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.
The double CD "Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band: Live in New
York City" was produced by Bruce Springsteen and Chuck Plotkin. It
was recorded by Toby Scott and mixed by Bob Clearmountain. The
exclusive HBO broadcast, which consists of a 13-song, edited version of
the legendary closing night shows at Madison Square Garden, was
produced by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau and George Travis.
The film was directed by Chris Hilson and edited by Thom Zimny.
The film's audio credits are the same as those for the double CD.
The E Street Band is: Roy Bittan - keyboards; Clarence Clemons -
saxophone, percussion; Danny Federici - keyboards; Nils Lofgren
- guitars; Patti Scialfa - vocals, guitar; Garry Tallent - bass;
Steven Van Zandt - guitars; Max Weinberg - drums.
The 13 tracks that appear on both the HBO broadcast and the double
CD are as follows:
My Love Will Not Let You Down
Prove It All Night
Two Hearts
Atlantic City
Mansion On The Hill
The River
Youngstown
Murder Incorporated
Badlands
Out In The Street
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out
Land Of Hope And Dreams
American Skin
The six additional tracks, which appear only on the double CD only,
are as follows:
Lost In The Flood
Born In The U.S.A.
Don't Look Back
Jungleland
Ramrod
If I Should Fall Behind
The triumphant, sold-out set of ten shows at Madison Square
Garden marked Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band's
first series of Madison Square Garden concerts since
1988's "Tunnel Of Love Express" tour, and cemented their
Number One position on Pollstar's track i ng of the Top Ten
tours of the first half of 2000. In a New York concert review,
USA Today's Elysa Gardner wrote "whether standing still
at his mike or cavorting naughtily with his bandmates,
Springsteen was both a showman and a shaman, capturing
the blend of sex, spirituality and empathy that is the essence
of rock 'n' roll and of most great live entertainment."

DOUBLE LIVE ALBUM
Latest reports seem to indicate the live album will be indeed
double, and its release on April 3rd may coincide with the
live DVD release. The definitive song list is not decided at
this point, so it is not 100% sure whether the album will contain
all the new songs that were debuted at MSG or just some
of them. In any case, an official announcement is expected
probably sometime next week.

NEW ALBUM TO BE RELEASED APRIL 3RD
Though not officially confirmed yet, a well informed source
has indicated us today that the new Bruce Springsteen album
is now set for worldwide release on April 3rd. It will consist of
a single CD and cassette, recorded live during the final shows
at Madison Square Garden in June of 2000, and will probably
include all the new songs premiered during the 1999/2000 tour
(Code of Silence, Another Thin Line, 41 Shots, Further Up on
the Road, Land of Hope and Dreams) plus a few more tour
standard and perhaps some rarities. There's no word yet about
the rumoured live DVD, though most likely it'll be available on the
same date. An official announcement from Sony Music is expected
very soon.

Badlands: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska
release date: November 7, 2000
Originally released on Columbia Records in 1982, Bruce Springsteen's
Nebraska broke new ground in the world of music. Releasing demo versions,
recorded with only acoustic or electric guitar, harmonica, and vocals, as
his sixth album, Springsteen created an American classic; both an embodiment
of the sincerity and spirit of the "common man" and a testimony to the
unvarnished power of his song-writing. As legend has it, Bruce delivered the
original songs to Columbia, recorded on a 4-track recorder, and insisted
that the songs be released "as is." Despite its bleak subject matter,
Nebraska was both a tremendous artistic and commercial success (this latter
accomplishment somewhat overshadowed by the spectacular reception of Born in
the U.S.A., released two years later).
In November of 2000, Sub Pop Records will be releasing a tribute to Nebraska
having gathered a collection of songs by artists inspired and influenced by
this work. Producer Jim Sampas (who has also produced Kerouac -kicks joy
darkness (a spoken word tribute with music), (Rykodisc), and was the music
supervisor of John McNaughton's (Wild Things, Henry Portrait of a Serial
Killer) latest film Condo Painting (USA Films)) specifically requested that
these artists record their chosen track using only four tracks, in the
spirit of the original. And, in the spirit of Bruce Springsteen, Sub Pop
Records will be donating a portion of the worldwide sales of this record to
the Nobel Prize-winning organization Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors
Without Borders (MSF). MSF is an independent international medical relief
agency that aids victims of armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made
disasters, and others who lack healthcare due to geographic remoteness or
ethnic marginalization. Each year MSF sends more than 2000 doctors, nurses,
other medical professionals and logisticians to provide medical aid in more
than 80 countries. For donations or for more information on this
organization, please contact MSF at http://www.msf.org.
Confirmed track listing:
1) Nebraska - Chrissie Hynde and Adam Seymour
2) Atlantic City - Hank Williams III
3) Mansion on the Hill - Crooked Fingers
4) Johnny 99 - Los Lobos
5) Highway Patrolman - Dar Williams
6) State Trooper - Deana Carter
7) Used Cars - Ani DiFranco
8) Open All Night - Son Volt
9) My Father's House - Ben Harper
10) Reason to Believe - Aimee Mann & Michael Penn
11) I'm on Fire (Bonus Track) - Johnny Cash
12) Downbound Train (Bonus Track) - Raul Malo of The Mavericks
13) Wages of Sin (Bonus Track) - Damien Jurado and Rose Thomas
Bonus tracks found on Badlands... are songs originally recorded during
Springsteen's Nebraska recording session, but found on later albums
(interestingly, much of Born in the U.S.A. was originally recorded during
these same sessions as well).

BRUCE PLAYS THE PONY AGAIN

The Light of Day benefit concert gathered over 800 people at the
newly re-opened Stone Pony club in Asbury Park. The show was
a benefit for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Bruce
Springsteen
attended the show and after seeing perform John Eddie, Joe D'urso,
Willie Nile, Marah and others, he joined Joe Grushecky and the
Houserockers for over 90 minutes. Here's the song list they
performed together:
Never Be Enough Time
Homestead
Pumpin' Iron
Murder Inc.
Talking To the King
Down the Road Apiece
Diddy Wah Diddy
Everything's Gonna Work Out Right
I Hear You Knockin
Ramrod
Light Of Day w/Land of a Thousand Dances
Twist & Shout (everybody)
I Don't Wanna Go Home
Joe's manager and show organizer, Bob Benjamin, joined the band
for "Twist and Shout", as it can be seen in this picture (taken by
John Cavanaugh).

DVD NOT HAPPENING'
Despite all the rumours that have been going on since early in the
summer, it
now seems there'll not be a live DVD for this tour, at least this year. Only "Blood
Brothers" and the updated and extended "Video Anthology" seem to
be planned,
though they will probably not be released until February 2001.
BRUCE LIVE
Bruce has played twice on a stage in the last weeks. First it was at a private
party
at his NJ farm, where apparently he played for a long time.
The second time Bruce Springsteen performed live this fall was
last saturday
Oct.21st. It was not a rehearsal for a new tour or a showcase. It was indeed
a fund-raising concert for Special People United to Ride of Monmouth County.
The show was held at Hedgerow Farm in Middletown. Springsteen
performed "Mystery Train" with Bobby Bandiera's band, and later,
around 11pm, he returned to the stage accompanied by his wife,
Patti Scialfa; Jon Bon Jovi; Max Weinberg, and Bobby Bandiera's band.
Bruce played for about 45 minutes, all rock 'n' roll classics, including
"Havin' a Party," "Rockin' All Over the World,"
"Proud Mary," "You Really Got a Hold On Me," "Hungry
Heart" and a
finale of "Twist and Shout." Also performed was "Mustang Sally",
with
the lyrics changed to "ride, Julie, ride" in honor of Julie Krone, the
recently retired Hall of Fame jockey who was being honored at the event.
Krone danced the go-go on the small stage during the song. Bruce was
playing that night an autographed Stratocaster guitar that was auctioned
and fetched $31,000. He also donated an hour-long personal guitar
lesson, which someone bought for $55,000.
Dressed in a black shirt and leather pants, and sporting a mustache,
Springsteen was reported to be in a good party mood, meeting and talking
with guests at the $500-a-ticket event.
The show raised $1 million.
Sept. 20th 2000
NEW ALBUM SOON?'
Latest rumours seem to indicate that the Nov.21st date that was
supposed to
be the release date for the live DVD was very premature. Rumour now is the live
album may come out early next year. "Blood Brothers" seems to be the
candidate
to be released this year on DVD, while "Video Anthology" could also
see the light
of day next year, with at least 1 hour worth of extra material. Meanwhile you
can
get a bit of Bruce on DVD because the movie "High Fidelity" has just
been released
on this format this week.
HAVIN A PARTY
We've received reports from different sources that Bruce had a party
at McLoone's
RumRunner Restaurant last friday Sept. 15th, an apparently played for about
two hours.
Sept. 11th 2000
NEW ALBUM DUE NOV. 21ST'
This seems to be the official date for the release of the new Bruce
Springsteen CD: a live album
recorded on July 1st 2000, during the last night of the 1999-2000 world tour.
The show will be
released in both video and DVD formats, accompanied by a CD with a selection of
songs from the
show.
At the same time, both "Video Anthology" and "Blood
Brothers" will be re-released, now on DVD
format, on the same date. "Video Anthology" will feature at least 9
new videoclips (from "Human
Touch" to "Dead Man Walking"), and "Blood Brothers" is
expected to have some extra footage for
its DVD version.

TRIBUTE TO 'NEBRASKA''

THE GRAND FINALE
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band closed their fantastic 1999/2000
tour with 4 amazing
performances at Madison Square Garden. Night #7 on June 26th brought "For
You", "Downbound
Train", "She's the One" and an spectacular version of "Night".
Night #8 on June 27th brought us
"Adam Raised a Cain", "Loose Ends", an amazing "Back
in your Arms", "Mary Queen of Arkansas"
and "Blinded By the Light". Night #9 on June 29th included "Don't
Look Back", "My Hometown"
"Another Thin Line" (dedicated to Joe Grushecky who was in attendance)
and a great solo piano
version of "The Promise", plus an encore of "This Hard Land"
(dedicated to the spanish and italian
fans who were there) and "Growin' Up". The amazing final performance,
which lasted 3 hours and
35 minutes, saw the return of the powerful "My Love" and "Prove
it All Night", along with a delirious
20 minutes of "E Street Shuffle" and "Lost in the Flood" (this
one was the real highlight of the tour, last
performed -an only once- in 1978, in its best version ever. Hear to believe!).
The encores featured
again a wonderful piano version of "The Promise", a real threat as Springsteen
has sat at the piano
only 2 times on this tour (prior to MSG), and never since 1978 except for the
2 benefit shows for
the Christic Institute back in 1990. The night, and the tour, closed with a incredible
new version of
"Blood Brothers", with an extra verse written specifically for the occasion.
Check out the complete set lists here.
June 24th 2000
NIGHT #6
Two more rarities last night: "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?"
and "Sandy", plus "Code of Silence",
"Dead Man Walkin" and "Human Touch".Check out the complete
set list
June 23rd 2000
NIGHT #5
Surprisingly Bruce opens the show with yet another new song: "Another
Thin Line", again co-written
with Joe Grushecky. "Something in the Night", "Sherry Darling"
and "Incident on 57th Street" come back
to the set list, and the show sees also another tour debut: "Secret Garden".
Another excellent performance
which will be followed by another show tonight.
June 21st 2000
NIGHT #4
More surprises, more great songs. "Growin' Up", "Saint
in the City" and "New York City Serenade", along with
the rarely performed "Candy's Room", make it onto the 4th night at MSG.
Check out the complete set list
June 18th 2000
NIGHT #3 AT MSG
Night #3 brought in new surprises. To start with the tour premiere
of the fantastic and often underrated
"The E Street Shuffle" (not performed since 1975), plus again the 3
new songs and tour rarities "Atlantic
City", "Rendezvous" or "Spirit in the Night". The original
set list had "Incident on 57th St" though it doesn't
get performed. Apparently, 3 new songs were rehearsed in the afternoon soundcheck.
See the set list.
June 13th 2000
"CODE OF SILENCE" DEBUTS
Bruce and the band began last night their 10-night stand at Madison Square
Garden with an impressive
performance. A brand new song, "Code of Silence", debuted and opened
the show. Bruce later mentioned
the new song has been co-written with his pal Joe Grushecky. The show also included
the other two new
songs debuted in Atlanta ("Further On Up The Road" and "American
Skin (41 Shots)") plus "Be True",
"Roll of the Dice" and "Dancing in the Dark". A report from
r.m.a.s. indicated this: :
"A police officer holding up a badge in one hand and giving each of the
band members the finger with his other hand, paraded around in front of the
stage during the performance of AS/41 until he was removed by security".
BILLBOARD'S POLL
Billboard has a poll online (http://www.billboard.com/poll/poll.asp)
where you can vote in support of the NYC PBA's
call to boycott Springsteen's concerts or rather vote against that. So far about
93% of votes are pro-Springsteen.
June 6th 2000
MSG SHOWS TO BE FILMED
According to Billboard Online the 10 shows at Madison Square Garden will be filmed
by a video
crew, though it is unknown at this time whether the result of this will be a video
or a DVD or if it will
be released in any form.
AMERICAN SKIN
The new song, introduced by Bruce in Atlanta as "American Skin", was
actually listed in
Bruce's handwritten set list as "41 Shots".
June 5th 2000
ATLANTA
The second show in Atlanta (and last show of the tour before the final tour de
force in NYC) saw the premiere
of two new songs which Bruce had been rehearsing intensely in past weeks. "Further
On Up The Road" opened
the show. Later, he also debuted "41 Shots" (in the "River"
spot) in a show that also included "Loose Ends"
and "This Hard Land".Check out the 2000 Tour Set
List Page.
May 30th 2000
SALT LAKE CITY
Another great show with more surprises: the premiere on this tour of the fantastic
"Saint in the City",
plus the comeback of "Candy's Room" and "Pipeline" plus "Let's
Go" added to "Light of Day".
On to Atlanta now, and then to NYC.
May 28th 2000
LAS VEGAS
What a show last night in Las Vegas. Bruce came onstage wearing a white jacket
with glitter that said
"Viva Las Vegas". For the first time since June 1984 Bruce plays a song
twice in the same concert, this time
"Viva Las Vegas" which opens and closes the show. Elvis' "Can't
Help Falling in Love" also debuts.
May 23rd 2000
ANAHEIM
Great show last night, opening with "Take 'Em As They Come" and with
the tour debut of "Roll of the Dice", in it's first
version with the E Street Band. And during the encores, some surprises: "Stand
on it" and Van Morrison's "Gloria", in its
full version. 2000 Tour Set List Page.

"Growin' Up" and the tour debut of "Roulette" to open the
second show! Check out the set lists in our 2000 Tour
Set List Page.
May 5th 2000
TORONTO
Super show in Toronto. "Incident on 57th Street" is back.Reportedly
the soundcheck included various attempts at the new song "Further On Up The
Road" plus also "Incident". Check out the set list in our
2000 Tour Set List Page.
April 29th 2000
PITTSBURGH
Two fantastic performances this week in Pittsburgh. The first night included the
tour debut of "Human Touch"
plus rare versions of "She's the One" and the guest appearance of Pittsburgh
rocker Joe Grushecky to perform
"Idiot's Delight" (which was co-written with Bruce) as the first encore.
The second night was even better. Joe G guested again on the encores
(this time on "Hungry Heart"), the show
opened with "The Ties that Bind" and "Adam Raised a Cain"
and also included "Trapped", "Point Blank",
"Loose Ends" (by request), "Spirit in the Night" and the rare
"Back in your arms" (again by request of a fan who
was celebrating her birthday). Read
a review of the show. Check out the full Set
List
NEW SONG SOUNDCHECKED
Yet another new song was rehearsed recently in North Caroline. Title unknown but
apparently it had a country
flavor. Some weeks ago a new song called "Further On Up The Road" was
also rehearsed but not performed live
yet. It may show signs that Bruce is working on new songs continuously, for a
new album?
April 19th 2000
THESE ARE BETTER DAYS
Stunning performance last night in Houston, with "My Love Will Not Let You
Down" back in the opening spot,
the tour premiere of "Better Days" plus the 2nd live version of "Mary
Queen of Arkansas" in 25 years, and also
the rare "Rendezvous" or "Cadillac Ranch". Check out the set
list in our 2000 Tour Set List Page.
April 18th 2000
LIVE IN TEXAS
In his first of two concerts in Texas this week Bruce Springsteen was joined onstage
by Joe Ely last night, who
sang "All Just To Get To You", the song written by Ely for his excellent
album "Letter to Laredo", in which Bruce
contributed backing vocals. They repeated that experience last night in Austin,
in a show that opened with
"Ties That Bind" and included "Downbound Train". Patti's back
in the band. Check out the set list in our
2000 Tour Set List Page.
April 12th 2000
NEW SONG
Bruce Springsteen has written a new song. According to fans attending the St.Louis
soundcheck, a new song was
rehearsed during that afternoon, and its possible title is "Further On Up
The Road". The song has the
sound of classic Springsteen, in a style similar to Thunder Road or Land of Hope
and Dreams. Apparently it was
included in that night's set list but finally Bruce decided not to perform it.
April 9th 2000
PATTIS' BACK
Patti Scialfa is back with the band. Great concert last night in St.Louis. Check
out the set list in our 2000 Tour Set List Page.
April 4th 2000
TOUR DEBUT
Last night's show in Portland saw the tour debut of "Dead Man Walkin'".
Patti Scialfa was not present at the show, which Bruce announced by saying "Patti's

TOUR 2000
An announcement of the 2000 U.S. tour is expected sometime soon. The new leg will
probably start on Feb.17th in Orlando, Florida, according to a recent radio interview
with Steve Van Zandt, and may lead the band to different US States that weren't
covered in 1999, plus some stops in Canada, possibly end of february. A tour of
Japan and Australia later in the year is also possible.
Jan 5th 2000
GRAMMY NOMINATION
Bruce has been nominated in 2 Grammy categories for the song "The Promise",
finally released last year on the album 18 Tracks. The nominations are for Best
Male Rock Vocal and for Best Rock Song. The 42nd annual Grammy Awards will be
held on February 23rd and will air on CBS.
TOUR 2000
No firm news yet but it seems there'll be more U.S. shows in between February
and May, possibly starting with a show in Hardford,CT in mid February.
Dec.24th 1999
Xmas PARTY AT McLOONE'S
As in previous years Springsteen celebrated his Xmas party at McLoone's Restaurant
in Sea Bright on Dec.20th. Bobby Bandiera's Band was in charge of the musical
performance, and Bruce joined them for a long set that included "She Loves
You", "A Hard Day's Night", "Brown Eyed Girl" or "Santa
Claus is Coming to Town".
Dec. 15th 1999
BRUCE PLAYS IN A BARN
Bruce Springsteen performed live Dec.4th in front of a small audience in
a bar in Colts Neck. It was a private concert organized by Jon Bon Jovi to benefit
the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. Anthony and Pam Diasco won the auction
and they paid $60,000 for the private Bon Jovi concert. Bruce, Patti and Southside
Johnny guested with Bon Jovi and among the songs performed were "Lucille",
"Treat Her Right", "Red Headed Woman" and "Havin' a Party".
AMERICAN TOUR TO RESUME IN 2000
According to different sources the US tour will resume probably in February and
March, though there will be shows only on the weekends as Max has a commitment
with the Conan O'Brien show so the band will play only from friday to monday.
Rumours mention the following cities or states among the candidates for at least
30 more shows: Florida, Texas, Denver, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Austin, Kansas City,
St.Louis and also some Canadian dates. No more details known at this point but
we're pretty sure an announcement should be made early in the new year. Plans
for Australia or Japan are currently off, but some shows there may happen after
the new American tour.

LAST SHOW OF 1999
"We'll be out again next year!" were the last words from Bruce
last night in Minneapolis, the last show of the 1999 tour. The show featured versions
of "Trapped", "My Love", "Red Headed Woman", the
acoustic "No Surrender", "Racing in the Street" and "Santa
Claus". Check out our tour page to see the complete
set list.

U.S. TOUR ENDS
Two shows in Minneapolis are the last live performances of Bruce Springsteen's
1999 tour. Last night saw the premier of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".
Tonight's the last night. Max returned to the Conan O'Brien show last tuesday,
and it seems there'll be no more shows in the next two months. Rumours abound
that Bruce may use this time to work on a live album, but this is still uncertain.
There are rumours of more shows after the middle of January, with two dates in
Pittsburgh.

NEW YEAR'S EVE GIG CONFIRMED!
Yes, it has been announced that there'll be a New year's eve gig, but it
won't be Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band... read on...
"...Clarence Clemons and The Band Of Faith are booked to
play at the
American Red Cross Ball on New Years Eve at the West Palm Beach
International Pavilion. This should expel any rumors that the Bruce and
the Band will do a New Years Eve show. If your interested in attending
call 561-833-7711 and be sure your VISA card has a hefty available
balance". (from the Badlands website)
NEW LIVE ALBUM
Apparently it is still too premature to confirm any plans, but it seems uncertain
that a new album may come out before the new year. If it gets released, expect
it no sooner than Spring 2000.
November 8th 1999
NEW LIVE ALBUM
Although still just a rumour, it seems a new live album, recorded during
the 1999 tour, is possibly set for release in December. It would be a single album
with "If I Should Fall Behind" as first single (a video for this song
was recently shot at the Philly and Chicago concerts, directed by Jonathan Demme,
and some additional footage was shot very recently in New Jersey). An official
announcement is expected this week.
FARGO
The E Street Band is back on the road and they performed last saturday in Fargo,
North Dakota, but without Patti Scialfa, as she's suffered a perforation in her
eardrum which has kept her away from touring.
November 2nd 1999
MINNEAPOLIS POSTPONED
The 2 Minneapolis dates have been postponed until November 28th & 29th,
due to Patti Scialffa being sick with some problem in her ear.

SAVE TILLIE CAMPAIGN NEEDS YOUR HELP
Letter from the Save Tillie organization:
Dear Springsteen fan,
Please help us in our fight to save Tillie and save the Palace. We need letters
written to the Mayor of Asbury Park,
and we need a lot of them.
Please join our fight by joining Save Tillie founder Bob Crane's plea for
help, found at: http://www.homestead.com/savetillie/noise.html
You may have heard of the Save Tillie organization. This is a group of Bruce
Springsteen fans that started with the goal of saving the clown face, named Tillie,
painted on the side of the Palace Amusements building in Asbury
Park, New Jersey. The goals of Save Tillie have evolved and have now become
much more than saving Tillie. The Save Tillie campaign is an all-volunteer
labor of love by fans of Bruce Springsteen and other Jersey Shore musicians.
We organized in response to the threatened destruction of the historic
Palace Amusements building in Asbury Park, New Jersey and its iconic Tillie
image.
Working with the greater community of Springsteen fans, Save Tillie has
directed its efforts toward persuading the City of Asbury Park to retain the
Palace as an amusements arcade and insure that this legendary site, so
important to Shore music fans world-wide, is preserved into the 21st
Century. It is the goal of Save Tillie to see the Palace preserved and
restored, with Tillie intact and the original Ferris wheel and carousel
restored to their former splendor. In the event the Palace building itself
cannot be saved due to structural failure, the Save Tillie campaign is
prepared to remove and preserve the Tillie image and install it in a public
space in Asbury Park.
Success breeds success. Once the Palace is restored and is successful,
others will follow. The city will gain the benefit of additional taxes, and
then be able to improve the schools and libraries. Jobs will be created and
Asbury Park will survive for future generations to enjoy.
Thank you for any assistance.

the piano).
AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Several australian newspapers are reporting that a tour of Australia is being

PHILLY IS THE BEST! Pt.2
The biggest surprise of the tour (and possibly in the last 19 years) arrived
saturday night when Bruce opened the show with one his his finest, and most desired,

"Atlantic City", "Streets of Philadelphia", "New York
City Serenade", "Jungleland" and "Raise Your Hand". See
the Philly setlists here.

PHILLY IS THE BEST!
The 5 shows so far in Philly brought tons of suprises. After two great concerts
last week and the postponement of the Spectrum show due to Hurricane Floyd Bruce
opened this week with an impressive concert that included "Back in
Your Arms", "Candy's Room" and "Something in the
Night", followed by another gig on the 21st that opened with "Little
Queenie" and "Take' Em As They Come" and also included
"Be True" and a snippet of "You Can't Sit Down". But last
friday at the old Spectrum Bruce delivered no less than 4 new tour premieres:
"Growin' Up", "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street", "Blinded
by the Light" and the phenomenal "The Fever" (first
version since 78). Tonight's show sure will bring more surprises.

THE RETURN OF THE UNPREDICTABLE
Just when complains started to arise from unsatisfied fans who wanted more
changes in the set list, Bruce has shaken it up drastically in the last few days,
surprising everyone with "The Ties That Bind" and "Backstreets"
as opening songs, and the world debuts of "Something In The Night",
"Ramrod" and "Trouble River". Add to this unsual performances
of "Meeting Across The River", "Give the Girl a Kiss", "Point
Blank" or "Red Headed Woman" and you get the picture. Anything
can happen at the next shows ("Frankie" and "Jersey Girl"
have been soundchecked on Aug.2nd). Check out full set lists in our 1999 U.S. Tour Page.

FRONT ROW TICKETS FOR BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AT MEADOWLANDS
The Kristen Ann Carr Fund is auctioning off a pair of front row tickets for
closing night of the New Jersey leg of the tour (August 12th). The
money raised from the sale of these tickets will go to benefit the Musicians on
Call program started by the KACF. The mission of Musicians On Call (MOC) is to
use music and entertainment to promote or complement the healing process for patients/residents
in health care facilities in the interest of improving quality of life and creating
a better living and healing environment. While the launch of this program will
be at New York City hospital, the purpose is to provide a working model designed
to allow others to emulate like programs at institutions around the world.
Musicians On-Call's immediate goal is to lift spirits in Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center by providing patients and personnel with access to live (including
in-room) musical performances 5-7 days a week and up to 9 hours a day. These performances
can be requested by phone, fax, or e-mail from people both in and outside of the
hospital or may be recommendations of a nurse, social worker or other clinician.
The musicians will be a mixture of local artists and occasional celebrity participation.
During lag times when a musician is not with an individual patient, he/she will
perform at out patient treatment waiting rooms, adult and pediatric recreation
rooms and also visit nursing stations to see if they or any of their patients
need a quick "pick-me-up."
The musicians will perform with a simple acoustic guitar or mini keyboard, keeping
volume to a minimum level so as not to disturb other patients or personnel. They
will only be in rooms for a few minutes at a time (unless more time is requested),
and will, of course, come back or wait to perform for a patient who is undergoing
a procedure or treatment. The musicians, as a matter of policy, will in no way
interfere with normal hospital operations.
The Kristen Ann Carr Fund will start the bidding at $5000. The KACF, knowing the
value of this package is looking for serious bidders
only, and asks you to respond to Michael Zorek at michaelz@luckytown.org Please include
a daytime and evening phone number with your bid. We will post the highest bids
on a daily basis, and the auction will close promptly at 6pm on Monday August
9th. The highest bidder must pay in full by certified check or credit card.
The Kristen Ann Carr Fund was started in 1993 to honor the memory of Kristen Ann
Carr, daughter of Bruce Springsteen's co-manager Barbara Carr and writer Dave
Marsh, who died of liposarcoma at the age of 21. The money raised by the fund
goes to aid in sarcoma research, as well as to improve the quality of life for
young people - especially teens and young adults - who have cancer.
July 25th 1999
MEADOWLANDS CONCERTS
In the 4 shows that Bruce has given so far at the Continental Airlines Arena,
new songs have started to pop up occasionally. "Spirit in the Night"
and "Independence Day" made their US debuts on July 20th (and the second
only appearance in the tour, since the opening night in Barcelona on April 9th).
"Loose Ends" and "Jungleland" have been performed almost every
night, and "Freehold", the song about his hometown which debuted in
Freehold NJ in 1996 during the acoustic tour, has been the first encore at every
show at the Meadowlands so far. Last night saw the 1999 world debut of "Point
Blank" (replacing "The River"), according to some reports it being
"a haunting version with nice organ and a sax intro"). At this show
Bruce also dedicated "Atlantic City" to the Sopranos (most of the cast
was attending this show last night).
Next show is monday July 26th. Go to our 1999 Tour Page to see the complete tour itinerary and set lists for every show.

ZARAGOZA & MADRID
After a standard (but still excellent) show in Zaragoza in front of 33,000
people, Bruce delivered one of his finest performances on this tour in a 30,000
seat stadium in Madrid. A tremendous performance with a very fine set list which
included, for the second time, both "Loose Ends" and a long "Lion's
Den". "My Hometown" debuted on this tour. Bruce and the band were
in top shape throughout the whole show in front of a great audience who sang most
of the songs (even older ones like "Jungleland") creating a great atmosphere.
The afternoon soundcheck included 3 great rocking versions of "Car Wash"
(with a Stones-like guitar riff at the beginning), though it was finally not included
in the set list. Watch out Genova!
June 2nd 1999

September or any other US stops. Shows in Cleveland on August 15th and 16th could
also be announced soon.
May 25th 1999
LONDON SHOWS
The London shows were a huge musical success. Specially the friday night
show, on May 21st, which marked the first live performance of "Meeting Across
the River" since 1/1/79 (the last show of the Darkness tour, in Cleveland
OH). Many songs were also rehearsed during the afternoon soundchecks, including
Racing in the Streets, My Hometown, Roulette, Give the Girl a Kiss, Loose Ends
and Blinded by the Light. Check the set lists here: 1999
Tour Page.
AMERICAN TOUR DATES
The first leg of the american tour was put on sale last saturday, and after
selling out 5 shows at Continental Airlines Arena in NJ, 10 extra shows were put
on sale. It seems that the tour is gonna end sometime in mid or late september
in Philadelphia, with no west coast dates, at least this year, as Max is returning
to the Conan O'Brian show in October. Rumour has it there could be another tour
(Europe / US West Coast) in the spring or summer of next year.

plans multi-night series of concerts in select major cities
nationwide.
The world tour began in Spain on April 9th with a 25-song set
that lasted nearly three hours with no intermission, and will
continue to traverse Europe through June 27th. By the time
Springsteen and The E Street Band return to New Jersey for the
U.S. kick-off, they will have performed 36 shows in 26 cities

STOCKHOLM TICKETS
A fellow fan from Sweden is informing us of the following:
"You have probably heard of the ticket madness in Sweden. Many fellow
Scandinavians didn't get tickets and much blame it to the lack of
getting tickets via the internet, due to a remake of the site. Now, when all the
tickets are sold out the site is again running. Most of the tickets bought via
phone in Sweden must be collected latest today, Wednesday 31th, some for the 24th
can be collected latest on Thuesday 6 April. Obviously, some have booked too many
tickets and won't collect them and they will be available Thursday 1 April (no
joke) 9 a.m Swedish time. Now when the site is running again I can only assume
it will be available there as well. The URL is http://www.biljett.se
And now for the news. According to sources at SONY Sweden they are working on
a 3rd show !!! You can list this as a strong rumour.
If this happence, my guess is that it will be on the 22nd as the 25th is one of
the most closed dates in Sweden. Everybody is free from work, so I don't think
the promoter can get people working on that day."
NEW SONG
Bruce has written a song called "Lift Me Up" for the new John Sayles
film "Limbo". The song has been described as "moody" and with
a "unique falsetto vocal".

TOUR REHEARSALS IN ASBURY PARK
The Asbury Park Press just published an article where details of the rehearsals
in Asbury Park have been revealed. On March 5th someone outside the venue listened
to the songs and reported it on AOL. This is what Bruce & Co. performed:
Secret Garden/Working on the Highway/No Surrender/Ghost of Tom
Joad (I wasn't there yet, but I was told it was a sparse full-band arrangement),
My Love Will Not Let You Down/Roulette/Promised Land/Tougher Than the Rest/She's
the One/Born in the USA (full-band, this is when I arrived)/Brothers Under the
Bridge '95 (full-band arrangement, similar to the take on Tracks - light drumming,
keyboards)/Light of Day (they played it once all the way through and did a partial
second take).
LUNCH BREAK
Born To Run/Bobby Jean/Backstreets (amazing)/Streets of Philadelphia/This Hard
Land (after one complete take w/Steve on mandolin, they played the end - the final
harmonica part to the end of the song six times)/Thunder Road (full band)/Across
the Border (they started and stopped several times during the song, but it sounded
great, no falsetto singing and I did hear an accordian being played during the
song).

TOUR NEWS!
Rumours about Bruce's forthcoming tour don't cease to appear. What seems
for real now is that the world tour will kick off somewhere in Spain the 2nd week
of April, though dates or venues have not been confirmed yet. Shows in Spain and
Italy seem to be more than possible during April, and shows in Germany, Denmark,
Sweden and England are possibly scheduled for May. A series of shows at Earls
Court in London have been rumoured recently, and apparently tickets should be
on sale very soon. According to several sources, additional shows are being scheduled
now for the first days of June, with 4 shows at Bercy in Paris, and other gigs
in Spain, Holland and Belgium. However, don't get too excited and wait until official
word comes (soon), as plans may change.
Bruce and the E Street Band have been rehearsing in NJ (with Max, when he is available). Some songs rumoured to have been rehearsed include "Prove It All Night", "Restless Nights", "Loose Ends", "Blinded by The Light", "Saint in the City" or "The Ghost of Tom Joad". In a recent interview, Little Steven mentioned there's plans to rehearse 168 different songs. By the way, Little Steven has now his own and excellent web page, which you can visit at: www.littlesteven.com
CD RELEASES
"Shut Out the Light" is the first track you can find on the new
soundtrack album "Vietnam, Long Time Coming", released recently. Bruce
will also appear on the forthcoming solo album by Mike Ness (Social Distortion),
to be released in April. Also Joe Grushecky will have a new album out by April.
This time it'll be a live album which will probably feature some songs from the
great shows at Nicks Fat City in October of 1995, with you-know-who playing guitar
and singing. Bruce's own new (?) album, Highlights from Tracks, is now
due out April 12th. It will include some unreleased tracks, namely "The Fever"
and, possibly, "The Promise", though it has not been officially confirmed
yet. A new CD-Single is also expected to be released simultaneously.
JOE GRUSHECKY LIVE IN SPAIN
Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers have confirmed a 10-night stand at the
Chesterfield Café in Madrid, all free admission. The dates are: April 28th, 29th
and 30th. May 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th. Don't miss it if you happen
to be in town on those dates.

NEW CD OUT IN APRIL TO COINCIDE WITH WORLD TOUR
Sony Music will release a CD on April 12th. It's not a new album with new
songs from Bruce. Instead, a 15-song compilation with songs taken from Tracks
will be release. The new CD, possibly titled "The Best of Tracks" will
be "virtually indentical" to the american 15-track promo sampler, which
contains the following tracks: Growin Up, Rendezvous, Hearts Of Stone, Restless
Nights,Where The Bands Are, Loose Ends, I Wanna Be With You, Born In The USA,
Lion's Den, Janey Don't You Lose Heart, Sad Eyes, Trouble In Paradise, Seven Angels,
Happy y Back In Your Arms.

to radio stations in Spain and is having heavy airplay. To see the sleeve of this
promo single and other recent releases click to go to the cover

EUROPEAN TOUR
An official anouncement is due in a few days. It's almost certain now that
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band will open their world tour in Europe
in April, and will come back to the States in late May or early June, to take
a break and then continue touring in the States during the summer. A source in
Austria mentioned that the local promoter mentioned Bruce would be there "between
April 20 and April 23".
In a recent radio interview in the US, Garry Tallent confirmed the band would
meet for rehearsals this coming saturday Jan.23. Yesterday NBC announced officially
that Max Weinberg will leave his spot on the Conan O'Brien show on March 1st to
join the E Street Band. Max will come back to the program once the tour is completed.
JOHNNY CASH TRIBUTE
Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Willie Nelson have already agreed to perform at
a Johnny Cash tribute concert that will be held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in
Nueva York City on April 6th. Other artists who'll probably join include Emmylou
Harris, Lyle Lovett and Trisha Yearwood. The concert will be taped and broadcast
later in April on cable channel TNT as the second installment in its 'Master Series'.
SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME
On June 9 Bruce will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The annual
dinner and induction ceremony will be held at the Sheraton New York Hotel and
Towers. The honorees are, apart from Bruce, Peggy Lee, Tim Rice and the late Bobby
Darin.
LITTLE STEVEN, THE ACTOR
Steve Van Zandt haS made his acting debut on the HBO series "The Sopranos".
He plays the character of Silvio Dante, owner of a strip club visited by the mob.
REMASTERED EDITIONS
There's strong rumours that Bruce's CDs are being remastered and will be
available in March, though no bonus tracks in them.

BRUCE IN SPAIN
Bruce Springsteen arrive to Madrid on sunday, and will give a press conference
today plus a 1-song performance for spanish TV. The press conference was originally
scheduled for saturday morning, but due to intense fog at Madrid's airport, the
flight from Bologna was cancelled both friday night and saturday morning. Because
of this the scheduled TV appearance in Amsterdam has been cancelled or, at least,
postponed. Spain is the country in Europe where Bruce has sold the most copies
of Tracks, exactly 55,000 copies as of last week. Italy seems to be the second
country in sales with about 27,000 copies of the box set dispatched.

"TRACKS" SALES
"Tracks" entered the Top100 in the US (at #27) on its first week,
selling about 47,000 copies. It had good sales everywhere in the world, like the
3,000 copies sold the first week in Belgium, the 4,000 sold in Norway, or the
strong 30,000 copies sold in Spain on its first week (it entered #7 in the charts,
and those sales would equal 187,500 copies sold in the US in just a a week, if
you compare population in each country: 40 million in Spain vs. 250 million in
the U.S.). A 15-song promo was issued in the US, along with a 3-song promo which
is included in the first edition of the book "Songs". In Spain, a 1-song
promo (with "Sad Eyes") was distributed to radio stations.

The BBC also filmed Bruce onstage at The Saint in Asbury Park (Oct.27th) for an exclusive acoustic performance of "Born in the USA".
Dec.9th VH1 "Legends: Bruce Springsteen" The program interviewed Bruce recently and is said to include lots of rare, unseen footage that promises to be a revelation.

Den/Part Man Part Monkey). The book, with its 304 pages, it's a fabulous trip
on Bruce's career thru its 200 extraordinaire pictures and the lyrics to all the
songs from his albums (up to "The Ghost of Tom Joad"). The quality of
the pictures alone makes it worth buying. Apart from pictures and words, there's
also a Springsteen-penned introduction to each chapter, with details about the
recording sessions and what inspired him to write the songs. There's also some
handwritten lyrics reproduced in the book along with handwritten notes to each
of the songs from the original tape that ended up being the album Nebraska. To

"TRACKS" PRESS RELEASE FROM COLUMBIA
Columbia Records has finally issued a press release with all the details
about "Bruce Springsteen: Tracks", the 4CD box set due out November
10th. Here's the official press release:

"Bruce Springsteen: Tracks" is Confirmed for
November 10th Release on Columbia Records
Four CD Set Contains 66 Songs,
Including 56 Previously Unreleased Masters
From Over 25 Years of Recording
"Bruce Springsteen: Tracks", a four CD set containing 66 songs and over four hours of material, will be released by Columbia Records on November 10th, 1998. The collection spans Bruce Springsteen's entire 25 year career as a recording artist.
The box set includes 56 previously unreleased masters, many of which were recorded during the making of The River and Born In The U.S.A.albums. The remaining ten masters on Bruce Springsteen: Tracks are b-sides, some of which were released only internationally. Bruce Springsteen: Tracks is comprised of:
Disc 1:
Featuring 17 masters from 1972-77, including Springsteen's very first Columbia
Records recordings, made in 1972 with legendary A & R executive John Hammond.
This disc also features additional songs recorded for (butnever released on) Greetings
From Asbury Park; The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle; Born To Run
and Darkness On The Edge Of Town.
Disc 2:
Featuring 17 masters from 1977-83, taken primarily from sessions for The River,
as well as from Born In The U.S.A. recordings. The original version of the song
Born In The U.S.A., recorded in 1982 for the Nebraska CD, is also featured on
this CD.
Disc 3:
Featuring 18 masters from 1982-87 -- additional music recorded for (but never
released on) Born In The U.S.A., as well as tracks from the Tunnel Of Love sessions.
Disc 4:
Featuring 14 masters from 1989-98 -- including 13 previously unreleased songs
recorded by Bruce Springsteen in the '90s, from Human Touch up to and beyond sessions
for The Ghost Of Tom Joad.
In the liner notes, Bruce Springsteen describes the box set as follows:
"During the long intervals between my record releases, as I was spending more and more time in the studio, when I met a fan on the street I was often asked, What are you guys doing in there? I regularly pondered that question myself. What we were doing in there was making a lot of music, a lot more music than I could use at any one time. As a result, my albums became a series of choices -- what to include, what to leave out? I based my decisions on my creative point of view at the moment -- the subject I was trying to focus on, something musical or emotional I was trying to express. In certain instances, as on Darkness on the Edge of Town, Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad, these choices crystallized the album I was making. On some of my other records the reasons I had for choosing one song over another, in hindsight, feel a good deal less significant. One of the results of working like this was that a lot of music, including some of my favorite things, remained unreleased. This collection contains everything from the first notes I sang in the Columbia recording studio, my early and later work with the E Street Band, through to my music in the 90s. It's the alternate route to some of the destinations I travelled to on my records, an invitation into the studio on the many nights we spent making music in search of the records we presented to you. I'm glad to finally be able to share this music; here are some of the ones that got away."

SPRINGSTEEN APPEARS IN LONDON COURT
From the Badlands
website comes this piece of news:
Well the rumours that Bruce was in London turned out to be true as he emerged
into Court 17 at London's Royal Courts Of Justice today at the beginning of two
cases being held simultaneously (Springsteen v Flute International and Springsteen
v Masquerade). Bruce, wearing a black suit, grey/green shirt and black tie did
not speak in court today, whilst his barrister put foreward his arguments that
all of the "Prodigal Son" material was owned by him and not by the various
companies that have got involved in this saga over the last few years. Later in
the week he will give evidence on his own behalf and amongst witnesses he is hoping
will turn up on his behalf is none other than Mike Appel. More details to follow.

"TRACKS" IS NOW OFFICIAL
According to Backstreets and Wall
of Sound, the release of "Tracks" is now official. Sony Music has provided
full details to some retailers, and they confirm Tracks is a 4-CD set with 66
songs recorded between 1972 and 1995. Here's the details:
Most of the songs were recorded with The E Street Band. The digitally remixed and remastered set is housed in a 6" x 12" digipack, which adds a 56-page full colour book of previously unreleased photos, lyrics & complete session information. As early as 1978 Springsteen spoke in interviews about his desire to release songs that didn't make the final cut on a particular album, a point reiterated in his introductory note to "Tracks":
"During the long intervals between my record releases, as I was spending more and more time in the studio, when I met a fan on the street I was often asked, 'What are you guys doing in there?' I regularly pondered that question myself.\line \line What we were doing in there was making a lot of music , a lot more music than I could use at any one time. As a result, my albums became a series of choices--what to include, what to leave out? I based my decisions on my creative point of view at the moment--the subject I was trying to focus on, something mu sical or emotional I was trying to express. In certain instances, as on Darkness On The Edge Of Town, Nebraska and The Ghost Of Tom Joad, these choices crystallized the album I was making. On some of my other records the reasons I had for choosing one song over another, in hindsight, feel a good deal less significant. One of the results of working like this was that a lot of music, including some of my favourite things, remained unreleased. This collection contains everything from the first notes I sang in a Columbia recording studio, my early and later work with the E Street Band, through my music in the '90s. It's the alternate route to some of the destinations I travelled to on my records, an invitation into the studio on the many nights we spent making music in search of the records we presented to you. I'm glad to finally be able to share this music; here are some of the ones that got away."
The final release date is November 10th (possibly Nov.9th in Europe). The box set's credits answer the question if there's been any overdubs. Some additional musicians are listed in some songs, notably the Tunnel of Love Horns which have recorded new parts for "Hearts of Stone" and "Lion's Den". The cover will be a 1974 picture by Phil Ceccola, which Springsteen personally choosed, of the artist sitting on a couch backstage in a PA club. (see below)
BRUCE SUED BY TWO N.J. COMPANIES
Bruce Springsteen has been sued by two New Jersey companies, Pony Express
Records and JEC Music, both owned by Michael Esposito. The companies claim they
own the rights to 32 songs Springsteen recorded in 1972, which they copyrighted
and tried several times to release in the US and Europe. They say Springsteen
stood on the way each time claiming the companies had no legal right to the material.
Pony Express attorney Frank Cozzarelli said the tapes are genuine and that Springsteen
"has used his stature and position as a famous recording artist to disclaim
the works and the recordings. Everytime my client makes an inroad into making
a distribution deal, Mr.Springsteen's representatives come forward and say we
don't own the works and the copyrights. That's created a doubt in the marketplace.
So we're looking for a chain of ownership". The two companies are seeking
$3 million in damages and are asking a federal judge to determine who owns the
legal rights. However, 13 of those songs have already been released in the US
and Japan on a CD titled "Before the Fame" (see below for a picture
of the Japanese release).

From the Badlands website: Rumours from yesterday reported that Springsteen has been in London since September 30th to appear in a court case (on Oct.1st) regarding the never-ending saga regarding the "Prodigal Son" material. The nightmare goes on and on. Bruce Springsteen is expected to give evidence at a trial commencing Oct. 1 at the High Court in London, the culmination of a long-running dispute between the singer and Masquerade Music Ltd., a London-based company that specializes in rare recordings. The Billboard Bulletin reports that the case is to decide who owns the rights to 32 songs recorded in 1972 by Springsteen; Masquerade claims to have secured the rights from Jim Cretecos, who, along with Mike Appel, co-managed the singer/songwriter in the beginning of his caree r. Springsteen initiated proceedings against Masquerade in March 1997 to prevent the company from issuing the recordings in the U.K. Masquerade suspended the project pending the outcome of the trial, which is expected to last two weeks.

A high production video is being planned for one of the tracks, and is guaranteed to generate huge amounts of exposure. we will be working this track, and a selection of others from the album, vigorously at radio.

Hard To Find (Pittsburgh); track 3 on disc 4 is Give It a Name."
E STREET TOUR?
Both Max Weinberg and Nils Lofgren have recently commented during interviews
that there's no plans at all for an E Street Band reunion. Danny Federici also
said he has no news at all about this and that he is very busy with his own projects
(writing songs for his second solo album) and touring with Mary Cutrufello (who's
been playing "Darkness on the Edge of town" in her concerts).
"TRACKS" 4 CD
According to different sources this is the content of Bruce Springsteen's
forthcoming 4CD Box set. An official announcement is expected soon. There's talk
that the upcoming book "Songs" (on Avon Books) will include a 3-song

Part Monkey). This is the rumoured song list for "Tracks":

BRUCE LIVE IN DECEMBER?
Latest news from a serious source report that Bruce may have held some dates
for 6 concerts at the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey for the 2nd and
3rd week of December. A decision should be made this week. Bruce's people have
said they want to put the shows on sale close to if not the same day of the release
of the box set. They want as mich exposure as possible and they feel that this
will gain them free publicity on the real news channels and newspapers. In addition,
there will be a major tour next year and they are more interested in seeing the
demand for these six shows. The demand will largely determine how and to what
extent next year's tour will be. i.e. stadium vs. arenas and playing "A"
markets only or both "A" and "B" markets etc. As you know,
we don't like to put rumours on this page, but this time the source was reliable
enough as to believe in this news. However, don't get too excited until all of
this is officially announced, as Bruce's plans may change any moment (for better
or worse).

"TRACKS 1973-1998" ON SALE IN NOVEMBER
Latest news from a Sony Music spokesperson confirm the release of the 4-CD
box set on November 16th (Nov.17th in the US and Canada). Yes, you read it well,
it is now down to 4CDs (from the originally rumoured 6-CD set). The box set will
include aproximately 65 to 70 songs, and may include B-sides and even live recordings
(some old outtakes like "Thundercrack" may have never been recorded
in the studio or some old tapes may not be in good shape). It has been rumoured
the first song might be the acoustic demo of "Mary Queen of Arkansas"
from the John Hammond audition session.
The box set will be titled "Tracks 1973-1998" and will possibly include some new tracks with the E Street Band. Sources very close to the band have indicated us today that a "little" recording session may be inminent, possibly starting this weekend or early next week. This may confirm 1 or 2 new tracks with the E Street Band could be included in the set, though it may also well be that those sessions would be only to do some overdubs to some songs. The photo here reproduced is supposed to be the candidate to be on the cover of the box set (a picture taken backstage at the Main Point Club in 1975 by Phil Ceccola). Sources indicate the original photo looks much better in colour and that the booklet for the box set will be "lavish" and between 64 to 80 pages. A new rumour has surfaced this week indicating a video may be released simultaneously to the box set, though no clue yet about its contents.
Despite the numerous rumours about some shows with the E Street Band this year, it is very unlikely, as Max is still playing at Conan O'Brien's night show and Danny Federici will be on tour with american artist Mary Cutrufello for the next 4 to 5 months. They will appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on August 27th.

SPRINGSTEEN PRESENTS HIS NEW WORK AT SONY CONVENTION IN MIAMI,FLORIDA
Bruce Springsteen presented his forhtcoming
box set during a 15-minute conference at the Sony Music convention in Miami, Florida,
last thursday morning, July 16th. Bruce went to the convention with a portable

a box set of unreleased songs will be out this fall, though no song list or release
date was given. He played a tape of "Where the Bands Are" and talked
about his songs and his career. The box set will include songs beginning with
his first Columbia session in 1972 and up to the Tom Joad sessions. All other
news/rumours (possible tour, song titles, name of first single...) are pure speculation
according to our sources.

set either for production or airing, nor have any directors, writers or actors
been signed.
SONY MUSIC CONVENTION
Sony Music will celebrate this weekend (starting July16th) his annual convention

INTERVIEW WITH DANNY FEDERICI
In a long interview with Point Blank, Danny revealed details of his solo career
and his years in the E Street Band. The interview will be published in the next
issue of Point Blank (#12) due out in September. Danny confirmed Bruce
had planned an acoustic show for MTV with Danny's collaboration, but was cancelled
due to Bruce's father illness and death. Danny will start a US club tour in September
to promote his solo album "Flemington" (available in Europe at Buffalo
Mail) possibly followed later by some European dates.

NEW BOOKS A-COMIN'
Avon Books has confirmed the release in December of a Springsteen book titled
"Bruce Springsteen: The Songs". With text by Bruce himself, the book
will contain the complete collection of Bruce's recorded lyrics plus hundreds
of photos from named photographers (from David Garh to Pam Springsteen). Bruce
has written comments to all the songs and photos. It will no doubt be a fabulous
book for Springsteen fans, and some sort of autobiography. For more information
you can check the Avon Books Homepage.
A biography written by Frank Moriarty is expected in August. Moriarty has written before books about Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Cash. Also due this summer is an interesting book (at least by the title) named "Tramps Like Us : Music and Meaning Among Springsteen Fans", written by Daniel Cavicchi.

1999 TOUR?

sure, will tell.

OUTTAKES BOX SET
Bruce Springsteen will issue by the end of this year the long awaited outtakes
box set. A source has told us it will most likely be a 6CD set which would begin
with the famous acoustic audition for John Hammond in 1972. Bruce has been going
thru lots of tapes lately, as well as writing for the lyric/photo book for Avon,
with stories written by him about the songs. The book goes back to Greetings (released
songs only). It is likely 1999 will be a big year for Bruce, after the release
of the book and the boxset, the induction to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame and
a (rumoured) big tour with the E Street Band, though with Bruce you never know
for sure. He may change his mind anytime.
May 25th 1998

aired on ABC on May 21st and included performances by Bruce Springsteen of "The

Hanson and Marty Rifkin).
NEW SONG BOOK
Avon Books will publish a book of Springsteen songs in December. The book
is said to include Bruce's own preface and comments to every song, along with
many unreleased photos over its 300+ pages.

He sang lead and background vocals and played guitar. Heres the set list:

wife Trudie were among the attendees. Though he did not perform, Bruce had no
problem posing for pictures with fans who approached him.
WOODY GUTHRIE BENEFIT
Ani DiFranco is compiling the best songs from the Sept.29,1996 Woody Guthrie tribute
show in Cleveland. Bruces versions of Tom Joad and Riding
in My Car may be among the tracks choose for the CD release sometime this
year.
THE SONGS OF PETE SEEGER
Where Have All The Flowers Gone: The Songs of Pete Seeger is a double
album tribute to the legendary folk singer Pete Seeger. Bruce Springsteen contributes
his version of the song We Shall Overcome, accompanied by a 9-piece
band which includes among others Soozie Tyrell, Frank Bruno, Ed Manion and Patti
Scialfa. A slow track, similar in tone to Secret Garden or Youngstown,
with violin and other acoustic instruments, perhaps an indication of what Bruces
next album might sound like. Other artists contributing to the project are Ani
DiFranco, Jackson Browne, Roger McGuinn, Nanci Griffith, Billy Bragg or Pete Seeger
himself. European fans can find the disc thru Buffalo Mail (www.buffalomail.com).
You can hear a minute of Springsteen's contribution pressing HERE , in RealAudio format.

which were answered with resounding Nos, so JBJ said meekly -- OK, we'll
play some more.
The musicians conferred, and played:
Rockin All Over The World (John Fogerty tune)
Hey Hey Hey Hey (? -- bluesy rocker with solo/jams)
THUNDER ROAD (leads by BS and JBJ)

31st 1998. The Come Together concert is held to benefit Sgt. Patrick

sought by the FBI. Tickets for the concert will be on sale this Friday Jan.16th

GRAMMY AWARDS 1998
Bruce has been nominated to this years Grammy awards in the Best Male
Rock Vocal Performance for the live version of Thunder Road from the album
MTV In Concert- Plugged, recently released in the US. Certainly a
bad excuse to have Bruce in the ceremony. How can they justify a nomination in
1998 for a song written 20 years ago and performed 5 years ago at the MTV concert?
The song had previously been released in the US in 1996 as a B-side to the single
Secret Garden, so its not a new release from 1997.

Land of a 1,000 Dances and Gloria among others. Bruce
and Patti slow danced to Unchained Melody.

TRIBUTE TO BRUCE
One Step Up, Two Steps Back: The Songs of Bruce Springsteen is the
title of the double tribute CD which was released on September 23rd by The Right
Stuff label (a division of EMI-Capitol). The first CD includes songs recorded
specifically for this project, while the second CD contains previously released
songs. Take a look at the complete song list. A dollar from every record sold
will go directly to World Hunger Year, the organization which Springsteen designated
as his charity of choice for this project (this is the first time that Springsteen
and his management have endorsed such a project). World Hunger Year was founded
by Harry Chapin in 1975, and focuses attention on hunger, poverty, and the grassroots
initiatives that fight them. The liner notes to each song were written by the
recording artists and reflect their individual sentiments and perceptions of Springsteen's
music.
