NEW ALBUM
In a recent interview in Australia Bruce mentioned he had an album on the works, with some songs already recorded and others pending to be recorded during the two-month break (March/April) before the upcoming European Tour. He said the album would continue the style of the former “The Ghost of Tom Joad”, with guitar, accordion and violin (like in the Asbury Park benefit shows). Possible songs would include “Brothers Under the Bridges” and “Long Time Coming”.

BRUCE LIVE WITH THE WALLFLOWERS!!
Saturday March 8th the Wallflowers (Jakob Dylan’s band) performed at the Tradewinds in Sea Bright, New Jersey. At about 12:15 the band got off the stage and returned two minutes later with Bruce on guitar. Three songs later Bon Jovi also joined the band and the guys were having a blast! The songs performed were “God Don’t Make Lonely Nights” (A Wallflowers original), “My Girl”, “Brand New Cadillac”, “Bring it On Home to Me” and “Not Fade Away”. Springsteen sang mostly back up and some lead and played guitar throughout. The band had rehearsed with Springsteen during the afternoon soundcheck, when they did “People Get Ready” and “Tears of a Clown”.

RHYTHM & BLUES FOUNDATION AWARDS
Bruce and Little Steven presented an award to Gary US Bonds (the 1997 Pioneer Award) in New York City on Febr.27th. Little Steven took the mic to give a very long and funny story.

GRAMMY AWARDS
Bruce performed “The Ghost of Tom Joad” at the Grammy Awards on February 26th at Madison Square Garden. Bruce also won an award for “Best Contemporary Folk Album, for “The Ghost of Tom Joad”. Roy Bittan was also onstage because of his involvement with Celine Dion’s album “Falling Into You” (Album of the Year), and Tommy Sims also won as co-author of the song “Change the World” (Record of the Year).

JAPAN & AUSTRALIA
Bruce toured the far east during the last week of January and the first two weeks of February. The shows were standard and didn’t bring much surprises to the set list, except for the addition of “In Freehold” to some of the last australian shows. The most interesting gigs were the ones in Melbourne where Bruce also performed “Sandy”, “The River”, “Blinded by the Light”, “Racing in the Street” and “Reason to Believe”.

December 29th, 1996
END OF THE AMERICAN TOUR
The last leg of the american acoustic tour ended Dec.14th in Charlotte,NC after a series of impressive concerts in the last weeks. Bruce didn’t add new songs to the set list, except for the Dion-version of If I Should Fall Behind that he did regularly as the first song of the second encore. Dion himself was a guest at the Ft.Lauderlade concert on Dec.2nd. One of the most impressive concerts took place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville,TN, Dec.12th, where he dedicated Racing in the Street to Emmylou Harris, who was in attendance. Bruce was joined again by Patti Scialfa on vocals and Soosie Tyrell on violin.

The setlist for the first night (the most surprising) was:

We'll try to attend and post the news here right after every show.

SPRINGSTEEN IN NEW JERSEY - SURPRISE SHOW

It was was announced just a few days prior to the show, and 1,300 tickets were available only to Freehold Boro Residents. The performance took place at the gym of St.Rose of Lima School (which Bruce attended when he was young). With help from Patti Scialfa (vocals) and Soozie Tyrell (violin) Bruce delivered the best performance on this tour yet, with surprising new additions to the set list. It was a very special show. "BLOOD BROTHERS" (VIDEO + CD-SINGLE) will be released on Nov.19th.
Sony Music has announced the official release of the film "Blood Brothers", which will be sold together with a CD-Single with songs taken from the film, which are:
1. Blood Brothers (alternative version)
2. High Hopes
3. Murder Incorporated (live at Tramps)
4. Secret Garden (string version)
5. Without You

"Blood Brothers" was filmed in January 1995 during the recording sessions for the album "Greatest Hits". It's a 80-minute documentary of Bruce and The E Street Band rehearsing and recording new songs in the studio. You can see how the songs progress from the acoustic version performed by Bruce in front of the band to the final band version as released.
Yet more interesting is the fact that we get to see and hear the other tracks the band recorded but never made it onto the album. Those songs are featured in the Cd-Single, with the exception of "Back in Your Arms Again", the best songs according to most fans which, for unknown reasons, is not included in the single.
After the film you'll also find in the video the clips for "Murder Incorporated" (recorded live at Tramps in February 1995) and "Secret Garden".
It's surprising that this film is finally released now, with a 2-year delay, and does not include (in the CD-Single) Back in Your Arms Again. Also, two of the songs on the single (numbers 3 and 4) had previously been released as B sides of previous singles.

BRUCE PLAYS AT POLITICAL RALLY IN L.A. AGAINST PROP-209
"The seeds of injustice and racism do not sleep, and neither can we. All Californians of good will must stand shoulder to shoulder and say that we are better than this and won't be fooled". These are words from Springsteen during his anti-Prop 209 speech in Los Angeles, last October 27th. He performed "The Promised Land" and "No Surrender".

THE AMERICAN TOUR STARTS
The new american tour began in Pittsburgh. This first show's setlist included songs played in the last part of the european tour but not in the prior american tour, like Atlantic City or Red Headed Woman. Joe Grushecky jumped onstage during the encores to play Homestead, a song co-written with Bruce and included in Joe's album "American Babylon".
The 2nd show (Wallingford) included the first surprise of the tour: My Father's House. We hope it won't be the last one.

During the summer Bruce did two appearances in Wallingford,Montana where he traveled to attend Toby Scott's wedding. August 9th he joined the band The Fanatics at the Great Northern Bar & Grill and played the songs Shake,Rattle & Roll and Mustang Sally. Next day, at the wedding reception, he joined again The Fanatics and played a longer set which included: Round and Round, You Send me, Hold On! I'm a Comin', Mustang Sally, Long Tall Sally and Shake,Rattle & Roll.
According to what an attendee at the reception said, Bruce told that a new record would come out this winter. Let's hope it's true.

US THEATRE DATES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 16
JOHN STEINBECK BENEFIT CONCERT AND PERFORMANCE AT WOODY GUTHRIE TRIBUTE PLANNED

Columbia recording artist Bruce Springsteen's first-ever solo acoustic theatre tour returns to the United States on September 16. Springsteen will perform in 33 cities in 24 states over a three-month period. With markets including Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Denver, San Diego, Seattle, Miami and Nashville, this leg of the tour takes Springsteen to different cities than the tour's first series of concerts.

In addition to the solo dates, two special performances by Springsteen have been scheduled. On September 29th, he'll participate in the Woody Guthrie Tribute Concert at Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH. The event will cap a week-long series of Guthrie remembrances planned by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the Woody Guthrie Archives. A benefit concert by Springsteen for the John Steinbeck ResearchCenter at the San Jose State University is set to take place as well. Additional details regarding the event, scheduled for October 26th, will be announced soon.

The sold out first leg of the US acoustic theatre tour began in November 1995 in Los Angeles, and continued through January 1996 with 26 concerts in 20 cities in the United States and Cananda, and benefit concerts in Red Bank, NJ, New Brunswick, NJ and New York City. Springsteen's first-ever international solo acoustic theater tour took place during February, March, April and May 1996, and reached well over two dozen cities in 13 countries, including Germany, France, Holland, England, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Belgium, Italy and Spain. The 35 performances marked Springsteen's most extensive series of Europeanconcerts ever.

Bruce Springsteen's thirteenth album, The Ghost of Tom Joad, was released in November 1995 and has been certified Gold by the RIAA. The Ghost of Tom Joad was chosen as one of the "Ten Best Albums of 1995" by Time Magazine, USA Today, The Wall St. Journal, and The Los Angeles Times, among others. Rolling Stone's Mikal Gilmore stated that the cd is Springsteen's "first overtly social statement since Born in the USA", and added, "I'm convinced it's Springsteen's best album in 10 years, and I also think it's among the bravest work that anyone has given us this decade". In Esquire magazine, Elizabeth Wurtzel wrote that Springsteen "dares to be heroic and write about what really matters to him and by extension, what really touches other people," and described him as "the last rock singer who is likely to make music that feels significant".

SPRINGSTEEN SUES U.K. LABELS TO STOP "UNEARTHED" CD RELEASE
LONDON, Aug 5 (Reuter) - U.S. rock-and-roll singer Bruce Springsteen, made famous by songs such as `Born in the USA', took legal action on Monday against two alleged bootleggers of his hit double album `Unearthed'.
Springsteen issued a British High Court writ against Flute International of Bristol, England and Robert Tringham of Hertfordshire, England, seeking damages.
The singer, who is based in New York, also sought a court order restraining them from copying any part of the musical and associated literary works on the album.
The album contains 23 songs dealing with familiar Springsteen themes such as his working-class roots in the northeastern United States.

There is also another release of “Missing”: the french have reissued the CD Greatest Hits as a double disc, containing the Missing CD-Single. The difference to the commercial CD5 is that the one you can find along with the Greatest Hits CD doesn’t have a picture sleeve.
A promo CD5 was also released with only 1 track (Missing) and with a cardboard cover.

NEW AMERICAN TOUR
It has been officially announced that the Solo Acoustic Tour will resume in the US in September, to continue thru October. The tour itinerary won’t be announced until August, but it’s likely that the tour will hit cities not included in the first american tour in the fall of ’95. Rumour has it the venues will be bigger than the previous tour of American and Europe, with capacities of 4 or 5 thousand people.

BOOTLEG HIT
The biggest distributor of bootleg CDs in American was busted last June 24th. Acording to the RIAA this was the largest bootleg seizure in history. The bootlegger was operating in the NY area and some 400,000 discs were seized along with $370,000 in cash. After this, some stores in the Village in NYC were also busted (Revolver and Second Coming). Reports say other East Coast bootleg dealers have pulled stock and that the news has curtailed the open sale of boots at some record conventions. So it is now very hard to find in American any bootleg CDs in the stores.

July 8th, 1996
At last the point blank homepage is online!. Meanwhile, Springsteen is apparently recording new songs in his home studio in L.A.
These are songs he wrote while on tour in Europe. Other musicians may be involved also (including Randy Jackson, who told a fan about this). But don't hold your breath for a quick release before Xmas.
There are also rumours about a new live album before the end of the year (from the acoustic tour) but we think it's very unlikely.

In the bootleg field the storm is the release of a collection of CDs called "The Lost Masters". 19 CDs are said to be coming out, and 5 of them are already out. They contains lots of unreleased songs from 1979/1983, including the E Street Band's version of "Protection" (a song given to Donna Summer in 1982), the rockabilly versions of "My Hometown" and "Sugarland", many acoustic home demos and band rehearsals and tons of unreleased tracks such as "Chain Lightning", "Under the Gun", "Little Girl", "I Need You", "Angelyne", "County Fair", etc...
The quality is excellent in all of the 5 titles released so far. Of note also there's the recent Crystal Cat titles "Brixton Night" (which contains the complete Brixton show from 4/24 plus all the different songs performed in London, including a rare performance of "The Angel"), plus "Berlin Night" , and incredible 3-CD set (sold as a double, don't pay more that what you'd pay for a double) with the complete Berlin show on the first two discs (an outstanding audience recording) and the 1-hour radio broadcast of the same show on the third "bonus" disc. The surprise comes when you realize the audience part has the same, or better, quality than the radio broadcast. It's hard to believe an audience recording can achieve such incredible quality, but it does.
