Worst album cover of the year 2009

According to Pitchfork, Working on a Dream is one of the worst album covers of the year, along with album covers by Chris Brown, Green Day, Joss Stone, Keith Urban or Neil Young. Pitchwork writes: "In simpler times, the Boss would've just put his tight ass in blue jeans in front of an American flag. Even with Bruce celebrating his 60th birthday this year, I think we all would have preferred that. There's a chorus on this album that goes, "I had my good eye to the dark/ And my blind eye to the sun." We'll take the apology however we can get it."

We wont' say if it is or not the worst album design for this year, but we're sure it is a new low in Springsteen cover art, along with the dreadful design for In Concert MTV Plugged.

Statement from Bruce Springsteen

From brucespringsteen.net:

Like many of you who live in New Jersey, I've been following the progress of the marriage-equality legislation currently being considered in Trenton. I've long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, "The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is -- a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law." I couldn't agree more with that statement and urge those who support equal treatment for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to let their voices be heard now.

Mike Appel on Springsteen

Mike Appel, Bruce Springsteen's first manager (1972-76) recalls in his website his adventure at the recent Buffalo concert. He was personally invited by Springsteen and flew in and out with the band's jet. Bruce dedicated to him that night's performance of his first album Greetings from Asbury Park NJ, produced in 1973 by Appel ("to the man who got me in the door. Mike Appel is here tonight — Mike, this is for you.")

In his blog Appel tells the full story of that night and includes several pictures with the band, Jon Landau and Bruce.

The Other Education, by David Brooks @NYTimes:
"...on the night of Feb. 2, 1975, I turned on WMMR in Philadelphia and became mesmerized by a concert the radio station was broadcasting. The concert was by a group I’d never heard of — Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Thus began a part of my second education".

Mike Appel - Finale Show of the Working on a dream tour - See Mike's blog for a full article about him being invited by Bruce to the Buffalo show, with photos too. The former Springsteen manager says:
"Then it was show time, Bruce, The E Street Band, Jon Landau and I get in a circle and hold hands backstage. Bruce then says, and I quote: “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere in the world than here with you guys at this moment”. Bruce and The E Street Band turn and take the stage to the screams of their devoted fans and begin what was to be a most memorable concert from my prospective".
