Arnhem show postponed!

Official statement:

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET CONCERT POSTPONED TILL TOMORROW

Tonight's concert of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street band in the Gelredome in Arnhem will be postponed till tomorrow, Saturday, December 1st. Bruce Springsteen won't be able to perform tonight, due to a severe cold. He states he is very sorry to have to postpone tonight, but does want to give the fans the show they deserve. And at this point, he feels he won't be able to do so.

However, he is convinced his health will be recovered sufficiently tomorrow night, to perform 100% up to standards.

Madrid & Bilbao: E Street Power

Bruce Springsteen arrived in Madrid last Sunday and offered a good, solid show, in his first Magic tour show in Europe. The show included tremendous work from Nils Lofgren on "Tunnel of Love", plus a very well received "Thunder Road". Patti was absent in the first European show (also in Bilbao) so Soozie Tyrell took her place in front of the stage. This was the first E Street Band show ever without Danny Federici. We wish him well and a quick return to the band. Charles Giordano, seating for Danny, did a pretty good job considering the little time he had to learn and rehearse all the song. Hats off to him.

Bilbao was a complete different story. Bruce was playing in town for the first time ever and got a tremendous reception. The band was ready, and he was on fire. The result was a spectacular show. It was one of those nights. From beginning to end there was no weak performances or throwaway songs. "Radio Nowhere" and "Night" set the tone of the show: intense, rocking, irresistible. "Jackson Cage" and "Reason to Believe" were a blast, followed by an explosive "She's The One". In the central 'rarities' spot, a nice "I'll Work for Your Love" (at a faster tempo than in Madrid the previous night) followed by a very intense and emotional version of "Backstreets". Next was the most rockin' and exhuberant take on "Darlington County" that you can get, followed by particularly good versions of "Devil's Arcade" and "The Rising".

He was sweatin' profusely, inter-playing with Nils and Steven quite often, jumping down to the front of the pit many many times, enjoying the warm and strong reception he was getting. And then came the encores. "Girls in their summer clothes" sounded fresh, dedicated to "all the girls from Bilbao, and one from New Jersey!". Next was "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" in its original, non-extended version and played with frenzy. This started a period of 25 minutes of non-stop playing . As "Tenth" was finishing and the crowd was roaring, Bruce started playing a familiar guitar intro... "Kitty's Back", totally unexpected and out of the blue. This was the real 'magic' moment of the night, with terrific solos from each band member. They all shone. We were transported back to 1975. Next were "Born to run", "Dancing in the Dark" (both with lights on and big excitement in the audience AND the stage) and a powerful "American Land" to end, with lyrics being shown on the screens (a wise idea). After the show ended, Bruce spent a good two minutes behind the stage waving goodbye, bowing and sending out kissed to the people seating in the sides of the stage. He sure loved the show. Can this get any better? Watch out tonight, Milano!

Danny Federici

Shore Fire media has issued today the following statement about Danny Federici:

STATEMENT

Danny Federici, an original member of the E Street Band, is taking a leave of absence from the current Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tour to pursue treatment for melanoma. Charles Giordano, who played with Bruce as a member of the Sessions Band, will temporarily fill in for Danny until he is able to return. Federici has been playing keyboards with Springsteen since the late Sixties. Said Springsteen, "Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return."

Boston #2

The American leg of the Magic tour ended last night with an spectacular performance in Boston. It was the longest and most intense show of the tour so far, with notable set list changes. In the sandwich spot (between "Reason to Believe" and "She's The One") two songs instead of one: "Darkness" and "Candy's Room". For the first time "The Promised Land" is substituted, for the tour premiere of "This Hard Land", followed by the twin pack of Wild & Innocent songs: "Sandy" and "The E Street Shuffle".

In the encores, after the usual "Girls in their Summer Clothes" (note: a new 'winter mix' of the song is now being played on radios), another tour debut: "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" (with guest Peter Wolf onstage) followed non-stop by "Kitty's Back", "Born to Run" and "American Land".

(The handwritten set list included "You'll Be Coming Down")

Next stop: Madrid, next Sunday, first stop of the European tour.

Last Friday there was a video-shoot for Bruce Springsteen. He was in Asbury Park and Ocean Grove, New Jersey, with a video-crew, filming scenes for a video for the song "Girls in their Summer Clothes".

Regarding the 2008 tour, a new concert has been added: Bruce will play the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, March 17th. Tickets will be onsale thru Ticketmaster on Monday Nov. 26th at 10am CST.

Friday, November 16

Albany's double shot

Albany had the luck of getting the, possibly, longest show of the tour so far, including two unexpected tour premieres ("a double shot from Wild & Innocent", as Bruce mentioned): "Sandy" and "The E Street Shuffle". When the moment arrived, Danny Federici got the spotlight while beautifully playing the accordion (his favourite instrument for his favourite Springsteen song).

Before "She's the One", there were two choices in the handwritten set list, "Candy's Room" or "Darkness". No doubts tonight: Bruce did both.

"Thunder Road" was back in the encores, this time dedicated to Matt Delia ("on of my best friends in the whole world") for his 53rd birthday. Patti was absent.

Thursday, November 15

Pittsburgh

"Patti's not here tonight, but we've got a special guest: Joe Grushecky". Without Patti, but with Joe Grushecky in her place, Springsteen delivered a long concert in Pittsburgh, with 6 encores including the tour debut of "Youngstown" (acoustic). Joe went onstage to sing with Bruce the song they wrote together: "Code of Silence".

Washington #2

Breaking the non-written rule of debuting new songs and adding surprises to the set list on the second night, this time it was the other way around: a strong set list with a tour debut on the first night, and a more standard (but not weak) set list on the second night, which included "Thunder Road", "Backstreets", "Jackson Cage" and "Town Called Heartbreak". The hand written set list included "Blinded by the Light" as an alternative to "Thunder Road".

Meanwhile, more tour dates keep popping up and will be on sale soon thru Ticketmaster. To the already known date in St. Paul,MN (March 16) add these ones: Atlanta,GA (April 25), Anaheim,CA (April 7) and Buffalo,NY (March 7).

Bruce at Stand Up For Heroes benefit

Bruce was the opening act last night at the Stand Up For Heroes benefit show (after him were comedians Robbin Williams, Lewis Black, and Brian Regan), and performed three songs with acoustic guitar and harmonica: "This Hard Land", "Devil's Arcade" and "Thunder Road".

MC Conan O'Brien introduced Springsteen as "the man who stole my drummer", which Bruce jokingly corrected "No, Conan, I believe you stole my drummer". After the show Bruce went onstage on his '91 Harley Davidson, which was finally auctioned for over $80,000.

Detroit: Three premieres are better than one

"Jackson Cage" made its debut last night, right before "She's the One", in stunning back to back. Later in the set, and finally, "I'll Work For Your Love" was premiered, and it sounded real good, leaving only "You'll Be Coming Down" off Magic waiting to be debuted on the tour.

And last... and least... already in the encores, a surprising 'audible': "Ramrod" substituted the set listed "Kitty's Back". Oh, well... not every debut can be perfect.

St. Paul

No big changes in St. Paul last night (except the absence of Patti Scialfa), though Springsteen delivered a hi-energy show in front of an excited audience with many young people in the front. Highlights included "Your Own Worst Enemy", "Incident on 57th Street" and "Thunder Road". (See complete set list)

Add to this a nice surpirse at the end, when the screens showed this message: "Bruce returns March 16. Tickets on sale November 10". This is the first 2008 date to be announced. It seems the first semester of the year Bruce will be playing in the U.S., and then move on to Europe for a long Summer tour of stadiums, with multiple shows in every country. Watch out for an announcement soon.
