Bruce Springsteen has performed this morning at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, for NBC's The Today show. You can see videos from the performance at the program's website.

Bruce had an early start today: soundcheck was at 6am! Later, Bruce and the band performed at Rockefeller Plaza, though not all the songs were aired (nor where complete).

Springsteen jokingly introduced "Livin' in the Future" with these words:

"There's a lot of things we love about America. Cheeseburgers, transfats, motorcycles, divorce, and cheating on your spouse. But over the past six years, we've had to add another picture. Therapy, medication, counseling, catholicism, HIV tests, anti-depressants, sleeping in barns, and botox. These are things happening today that we never thought possible"

Strangely, "My Hometown" has been performed twice. After a well deserved rest, the band has another job tonight: the third (and last) rehearsal show, at CAA in East Rutherford, NJ.

Second night of magic in Asbury Park

Another hot night with the E Street Band. Bruce learned from the first night's mistakes and made a lot of changes in the set list, in their order and debuting new songs: "Badlands" triumphally closing the main set, plus "Prove it all night", "Town Called Heartbreak" (the Patti Scialfa song, sung as a duet), "Born in the USA" and "Magic", introduced as a song about "the times we're living in. When we can make a lie seem true, and the truth seem a lie, so watch out for that magic".

Full set list at the Concerts page.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band show their magic in Asbury Park

Bruce Springsteen and his legendary E Street Band opened his Magic world tour with a special rehearsal show in Asbury Park.

The much anticipated comeback of the E Street Band featured a 2-hour show, with a very intense rockin' beginning ("Radio Nowhere", "No Surrender", "Gypsy Biker") in a set that included 7 songs off Magic, plus selected vintage classics as "She's The One", "Candy's Room", "Night", "The Promised Land", and... surprise, "Thundercrack" opening the encores. There was no "Badlands", no "Hungry Heart", no "Thunder Road", no epic (or boring, depending on your taste) 15-minute songs like "Tenth Avenue" or "Mary's Place".

Two hours of straight rock'n'roll that promise to get better and better each night, possibly with lots of setlist changes. Remember, this was just a rehearsal. More tonight.

Full set list here.

And... a third rehearsal show has been announced. This Friday, Sept.28th, at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. Tix ($100) onsale today at noon (ECT), by phone only: 201-507-8900, 212-307-7171, 866-448-7849. Good luck, and goodnight.

Bruce and band begin rehearsals in Asbury Park

Today was the first of a series of rehearsal sessions at Asbury Park's Convention Hall. Apparently Bruce didn't want fans to hear from outside, as big speakers were placed outside the hall, blasting radio station WJLK 94.3. Stan Goldstein reports: "The band started playing early today, around 9 a.m. Someone who was there early said they did get to hear four songs before the speakers started blasting WJLK".

Spoiler: if you really want to know what's being rehearsed in Asbury Park, check the Concerts page.
