«XL Semanal» publica una entrevista con Bruce Springsteen

El domingo 19 de diciembre Bruce Springsteen ocupará la portada del suplemento dominical XL Semanal, distribuido con muchos periódicos de todo el país (ABC, El Correo, Diario Vasco, Las Provincias, El Comercio, Sur, Ideal, etc.). La revista publica una entrevista con el artista, realizada en Nueva Jersey por Nick Rufford. Springsteen habla de política, del malestar de algunos fans americanos republicanos que le han llegado a reprochar en persona sus ideas políticas, repasa sus años de juventud y su vida familiar actual («Hago el desayuno, llevo a mi hijo al colegio y luego hago un poco de ejercicio o voy al mar a bañarme«). Escribe a diario («por las tardes trabajo en alguna nueva canción o algo por el estilo. Luego llega la hora de cenar en casa«) y lleva una vida ordenada, mientras que antes de los 40 llevaba una vida caótica («antes de tener familia me pasaba la noche en vela, dormía durante el día, hacía lo que me daba la gana«).

Y termina con una declaración de principios: «Cuando salgo a escena, me siento igual que cuando debuté en un club de mala muerte de Freehold: en esta noche precisa, lo que vas a hacer es lo más importante del mundo«.

La entrevista se ilustra con fotos inéditas recientes del cantante en un finca de Nueva Jersey, junto a retratos de juventud realizados en 1978 por Eric Meola.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band actuaron en Asbury Park la semana pasada. Allí se filmó un concierto promocional con canciones del álbum The Promise, el doble CD con canciones inéditas de 1977/78 que forma parte de la caja The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story.

Cinco de las canciones que Springsteen interpretó en el edificio del tiovivo de Asbury conforman «Songs from The Promise», un miniconcierto que desde hoy se emite en diversas páginas web de todo el mundo. En España serán los sitios web de El Mundo y Marca los que emitan el concierto, desde hoy hasta el 1 de enero. En el momento de redactar esta noticia ni una ni otra ofrecían aún las cinco canciones seleccionadas, que son estas:

«Racing in the Street (’78)
«Gotta Get That Feeling»
«Ain’t Good Enough For You»
«The Promise»
«Blue Christmas»

Los músicos que actuaron junto a Springsteen en este concierto fueron: Clarence Clemons, Steve Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Roy Bittan y Gary Tallent, de la E Street Band, junto al teclista Charles Giordano, una sección de viento formada por Ed Manion, Barry Danielian, Curt Ramm, Clark Gayton y  Stan Harrison, y David Lindley al violín como invitado especial (David ya tocó en 1977 en las sesiones de estudio del álbum Darkness on gthe Edge of Town).

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: «Songs From The Promise» To Stream Internationally Today

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed a rare concert event last week in Asbury Park, New Jersey’s historic Carousel House, playing never-before performed songs live from the new 2-CD set, ‘The Promise.’ Beginning today, five songs from the show will stream online, with North American viewers able to tune in exclusively across VEVO platforms, including VEVO.com (http://www.VEVO.com) starting at 10am EST. The concert will be available on VEVO until January 1. See below for a complete list of international streams.

Filmed before an audience of approximately sixty fans, «Songs From The Promise» was directed and edited by Grammy- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny and mixed by Emmy-winner Bob Clearmountain. The concert features the world premiere E Street Band performances of four tracks from ‘The Promise,’ plus «Blue Christmas.»

For this one-time concert event, Springsteen and members of the E Street Band lineup—Clarence Clemons, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Roy Bittan, and Gary Tallent—were joined by keyboardist Charles Giordano, a full horn section— Ed Manion, Barry Danielian, Curt Ramm, Clark Gayton and Stan Harrison—and special guest David Lindley, who played violin during the original recording sessions.

‘The Promise’ 2-CD set contains 21 never-before-released tracks from the 1976-78 ‘Darkness on The Edge of Town’ sessions. ‘The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story,’ a 6-disc deluxe set (including 3 CDs and 3 DVDs), features eight hours and 33 minutes of audio and video and contains the internationally celebrated documentary «The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town» (as seen on HBO) as well as the complete ‘The Promise’ 2-CD set.

Springsteen brings back alive the songs from The Promise

Asbury Park went back to the 70’s for a while yesterday afternoon. Springsteen reunited The E Street Band at the Carousel House, south of the famous boardwalk. With only a bunch of fans, family and friends in the audience, Springsteen performed a group of selected songs off his new double album The Promise.

After a lenghty soundcheck, Bruce sang 11 songs in front of a small audience and a film crew, with a shortened E Street Band (without Nils or Patti), plus help from a horn section and David Lindley on the violin (David had previously joined the E Street Band during the Darkness studio sessions in ’77/78).

«Racing in the Street» (in its ’78 rock version), «The Brokenhearted», «Talk to me», «Outside Lookin’ in», «One Way Street», «The Promise» or «Ain’t Good Enough for You» were some of the songs that were performed various times for the cameras.

The filmed performance ended with «Blue Christmas», with all the audience wearing Santa hats. The show was filmed for promotional purposes and will be webcast sometime at the end of this month. See complete set list.

En la tarde de ayer Asbury Park volvió a los años 70 por unas pocas horas. Springsteen reunió a la E Street Band en el Carousel House de Asbury, al sur del famoso paseo marítimo de la ciudad. Ante poco más de un centenar de afortunados (entre fans, invitados y familiares) y en el edificio donde hace años se albergó el viejo tiovivo, Springsteen interpretó una selección de canciones del álbum The Promise ante un equipo de cámaras que filmó la actuación para posterior emisión por internet, a finales de este mes. «Racing in the Street» (versión ’78), «The Brokenhearted», «Talk to me», «Outside Lookin’ in», «One Way Street», «The Promise» o «Ain’t Good Enough for You» fueron algunas de las canciones que sonaron varias veces (al menos 2 tomas por canción).

Las cámaras tomaron múltiples planos de cada canción y de todos los miembros de una E Street Band fiel a su versión 1978, o sea, sin Nils ni Patti, pero ampliada para la ocasión con una sección de vientos y con David Lindley al violín, como ya hiciera en las sesiones de estudio del álbum Darkness. Aunque sin posibilidad de verlo o entrar, muchos fans se agolparon en las calles adyacentes para escuchar esas canciones que revivían treinta y tres años después de su creación. La actuación acabó con «Blue Christmas» y todo el público con gorros de Santa Claus.
