Clarence Clemons en el Walk of Fame de Norfolk

Ayer Clarence recibió un merecido homenaje en su ciudad natal de Norfolk, Virginia. El saxofonista de la E Street Band ya tiene su nombre en una estrella en la acera de Grandby Street, junto a las de otras leyendas de Norfolk como Bruce Hornsby o la mítica Ella Fitzgerald. Tras el homenaje se celebró un concierto en el Roper Performing Arts Center, donde Clarence también participó.

“Live in Dublin” will debut on New Jersey Public TV

Bruce Springsteen.net reveals today the cover art for “Live in Dublin”, which will be released in three formats: CD, DVD and the brand new Blu-ray DVD with 1080 HD resolution with uncompressed surround sound.

Check out NJ Public Television on April 30th at 8pm for the exclusive premiere of “Live in Dublin”. In June, other PBS channels will also air the show.

“Live in Dublin” se estrenará en televisión

El DVD “Live in Dublin”, anunciado para el próximo 5 de junio, se estrenará primero en Estados Unidos en diversos canales de televisión. Fiel a su estado natal, Springsteen ha elegido el canal público de televisión de New Jersey (NJ Public Television and Radio) para que sea el primero en emitir el concierto, el próximo 30 de abril. Posteriormente otras cadenas públicas de televisión lo emitirán también. Un comunicado de prensa publicado hoy confirma la edición del concierto de Dublín en tres formatos: CD, DVD y también DVD Blu-Ray de alta definición (HD)

BruceSpringsteen.net ha revelado hoy la que será portada del disco y DVD.

Little Steven habla sobre la E Street Band

Seguramente muchos habréis leido en internet las declaraciones de Little Steven a la revista Spinner, donde hacía algún comentario sobre un posible nuevo disco de la E Street Band. No deja de ser curioso como la nada se convierte en noticia gracias a la red. Las declaraciones de Steven, donde no dice absolutamente nada nuevo ni da ningún tipo de noticia, han corrido como la pólvora, llegando incluso a los noticiarios del Reino Unido. Un nuevo ejemplo de la desinformación de la cual a veces se nutre la red (y la prensa a la caza de titulares), y si no, juzguen ústedes mismos. Preguntado sobre el posible nuevo disco de Springsteen, Steven responde:

“Tenemos que hacer un disco, lo cual podría suceder pronto. No tengo ninguna razón para decir esto salvo mi propio instinto, pero tengo la sensación de que será más pronto que tarde. Una vez esté hecho, somos muy rápidos. Springsteen podría llamarme hoy mismo, podríamos sacar un nuevo disco y estar de gira en un plazo de tres meses. Tendemos a ser mejores cuanto más viejos – quizá no más bellos, pero sí más expertos”.

Repasando hemerotecas vemos el mismo tipo de declaraciones al acabar la gira de The Rising. Luego Bruce sorprendió al mundo con su proyecto “Seeger Sessions”.

Mientras tanto Little Steven ha seguido ocupado grabando la última temporada de la serie Los Soprano, así como con el lanzamiento de su propio sello discográfico, Wicked Cool Records, para el cual ya ha fichado a diversas bandas de garage-rock, como los Chesterfield Kings, The Charms, Cocktail Sleepers, y muchos más.

Otro E Streeter con nuevos proyectos es Nils Lofgren. Recientemente ha grabado una canción en colaboración con el escritor norteamericano Clive Cussler (“La Odisea de Troya”, “El Buda de Oro”, etc), vecino de Nils en su ciudad de residencia en Arizona. Nils planea poner la canción en su web en breve. Mientras tanto desde su página web es posible descargarse el vídeo-clip de “Shine Silently” (extraido de su nuevo DVD “Live Acoustic”), así como canciones y demos inéditas (“When You Are Loved”, sobre la tragedia del 11-S, y una versión del “Wonderful World” de Sam Cooke) que Lofgren ofrece gratuitamente.

Aunque lo más interesante, sin duda para quienes toquen la guitarra, son las lecciones de guitarra que Lofgren ofrece en su web. Las clases, en formato de vídeo, están disponibles en la propia tienda de Nils (por 15 dólares cada clase, en vídeo, de 1 hora de duración).

Y para acabar, los más dedicados seguidores de este gran guitarrista pueden disfrutar de la audición de un concierto reciente de Nils en Dublin a través de la web de la radio irlandesa.

Rosalita revisited

Esta es la historia (¿autobiográfica?) que Bruce contó en la parte central de “Rosalita” durante el concierto en el Carnegie Hall, antes de cantar la parte final:

“Bueno, por desgracia, se hace tarde. Y esta canción es muy larga. Vaya, ¡escribí letras muy largas en mis principios! De todos modos, no creo que os interese el resto de la historia. Os sabéis de sobras la maldita historia. Rosie se piró con nuestro héroe, se casaron, y vivieron felices por siempre jamás, más o menos, a pesar de los que os hayan contado en la prensa amarilla. Nuestro héroe formó una banda, se hizo rico, se convirtió en una estrella e hizo feliz a muchísima gente con sus canciones.

Y entonces empezó a ser feliz él mismo. Así que disolvió la banda, y empezó a escribir un puñado de canciones sobre la felicidad. Y no le gustaron a nadie. Así que reunió a la banda de nuevo. Escribió nuevas canciones. Éstas trataban de la tristeza. Le encantaron a todo el mundo. Y pasaron los años. Nuestro héroe engordó un poco. Su cabello empezó a tener canas, al menos cuando no se lo retocaba. Los Estados Unidos se conviertieron en un reino. Y el puto planeta entero se cabreó tanto que empezó a calentarse y calentarse. Llegaron los bebés, y se conviertieron en niños. Y luego en… algo distinto. Y nuestro héroe llegó una noche a la ciudad más grande del mundo. Y se encontró encima del escenario más lujoso del mundo.

Sé que creeis que esta historia es falsa. Sé que no ocurre así exactamente. Pero esta noche, os lo juro, todo es real. ¡Así que vayamos al grano!”

Bruce Springsteen: The Promised Land (Carnegie Hall, April 5th 2007)

Here’s Bruce’s story in the middle of “Rosalita”, as performed at Carnegie Hall:

“Well, it’s getting late, unfortunately. And this song is really long. Man, I wrote a lot of lyrics back then! Anyway, you don’t really want to hear the rest of the story. You know the damn story already. Rosie rode off with our hero, they got married, and they lived pretty much happily ever after, more or less, despite what you might’ve read in one or two tabloid stories. Our hero got himself a band, made a fortune and became a star and made a whole lot of people happy with his songs.

And then he started to get sort of happy himself. So he broke up the band, and started writing a bunch of songs about being happy. And no one liked them. So he got the band back together. He wrote some new songs. These ones were about being sad. Everyone loved them. And the years went by. Our hero put on a few pounds. His hair started to get some grey in it, at least when he wasn’t touching it up. The United States turned into a kingdom. The whole damn planet got so pissed off about the whole thing that it just started getting hotter and hotter. Some babies came. And then they turned into children. And then they turned into… something else. And our hero came one night to the biggest city in the world. And he found himself onstage at the fanciest music house in the whole world. I know you’re thinking this story is bullshit. I know it doesn’t really happen like that. But tonight, I’m telling you, it’s all true. So we might as well just cut to the chase already!”

I’m Still Alive!

With those words Bruce Springsteen entered the Carnegie Hall stage last night during the benefit concert which honored his music. The event (which raised $150,000 for Music For Youth‘s music education programs), was full of highlights, including Patti Smith (a late minute addition) singing “Because The Night”, Steve Earle doing “Nebraska” to open the night, Marah with their version of “The Rising”, The Holmes Brothers and a choir of 35 young voices singing “My City of Ruins”, the legendary Odetta doing “57 Channels” or The Hold Steady nailing “Atlantic City”. After 10pm the announcer said “If I was a genie in a bottle and could grant you one wish, what would it be? How about Bruce Springsteen!”. The crowd cheered as Bruce walked onstage and said: “The good news is I’m still alive! It’s like I’m invisible and floating high above the room and hearing all these people talking about you. It’s like a funeral. Thank you to all the artists for showing up”. Then proceeded to perform acoustic versions of “The Promised Land” and “Rosalita”.

The evening finished with all musicians onstage for yet another version of “Rosalita”, only this time if was a full band version (with the Elysian Fields) with lead vocals from Craig Finn (of The Hold Steady), Badly Drawn Boy, Jesse Malin, Steve Earle and of course Bruce Springsteen.
