La estancia de Bruce Springsteen en Londres no podía ser más provechosa. En su primera noche en la ciudad subió al escenario del teatro Shepherd’s Bush Empire para tocar la guitarra con Lucinda Williams * (a quien ya fue a ver en Birmingham).La segunda noche, el sábado, correspondió al primer concierto de Springsteen en el renovado Wembley Arena con la Seeger Sessions Band. Una noche especial pues incluyó el estreno de una nueva canción, recién escrita y titulada “Gonna Be A Long Walk Home”. La presentó como una canción “por completar”, una de las muchas que estos días afirma estar componiendo en habitaciones de hotel, de cara a su próximo disco. Bruce aprovechó el momento para comentar su visita al concierto de Lucinda y recomendar sus discos a toda la audiencia de Wembley.
En su tercera noche en la ciudad, y segunda en el Wembley Arena, estrenó “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?” en esta gira, y añadió un par de rarezas al concierto: “Land of Hope and Dreams” (estrenada en Barcelona en octubre) y “Man in the Flying Trapeze”, un espléndido final para otra gran noche. El rumor ahora es que los conciertos de Dublín quizá sean filmados para posterior edición. Sin duda esta gira merece un DVD.
* su álbum Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, una obra maestra, debería ser escucha obligatoria para cualquier fan de Springsteen. El disco, además, fue producido por Roy Bittan y Steve Earle.

Does this bus stop at Wembley?
13 noviembre, 2006The Springsteen bus stopped, indeed, at Wembley. Twice. Two excellent, solid performances with some surprises. On the first night, the debut of a newly written Springsteen song (still “a work in progress”, as he indicated) called “Gonna Be A Long Walk Home”. The show once again opened with the funky, very E-Street-Shufflesque version of “Blinded by the light”, and closed with “Froggie Went-A-Courtin”.Second night had a few more surprises. A tour premiere (“Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?”) and two rarities: “Land of Hope and Dreams” and “Man in the Flying Trapeze”, both on the encores.
There’s a rumour flying around that the Dublin shows might be filmed for future release.

Springsteen with Lucinda Williams in London
11 noviembre, 2006Lucinda Williams had a very special guest last night during her spectacular London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire: “Mr. Bruce Springsteen”. He came onstage for the last couple songs and played electric guitar in the old delta blues “Disgusted”, by Lil’ Son Jackson, and the closing number: an extended, electrifying “Joy”, with great guitar solos by Bruce. Lucinda introduced Springsteen several times, and look visibly thrilled.
As her only encore, Lucinda played “West”, the title track from her forthcoming album (to be released in February 2007). The whole show was incredible, with a fantastic band and very inspired performances of Lucinda’s best songs.

11 noviembre, 2006El espectacular concierto de Lucinda Williams anoche en el Shepherd’s Bush Empire de Londres tuvo un inesperado broche de oro: en las dos últimas canciones apareció como guitarrista invitado “Mr. Bruce Springsteen”. Tocó la guitarra eléctrica en el viejo delta blues “Disgusted”, de Lil’ Son Jackson, y como cierre del concierto, una larguísima y electrizante versión de “Joy”, en la que hizo espectaculares solos de guitarra. Lucinda presentó varias veces a Springsteen y se la veía claramente emocionada por compartir ese momento musical.
Como único bis, Lucinda cerró el concierto con “West”, canción que da título a su próximo álbum, que se publicará en febrero de 2007. El concierto entero fue increíble, con Lucinda desgranando lo mejor de su repertorio y una banda fantástica.

Nils Lofgren guests at Birmingham show
9 noviembre, 2006Tonight’s show at the NEC Arena in Birmingham has featured a nearly identical set list than the previous show in Belgium (except for the first encore: “My City of Ruins” instead of “Fire”, and the extra encore of “Froggie Went A-Courtin’”). “Blinded by the Light” opens the show again. Tonight, though, an E Street Band member joined the Seeger Sessions Band: Nils Lofgren, which was up onstage during “Pay Me My Money Down”. Nils is currently touring the U.K.
